I've been wondering for a while, is it possible to update ps2emu + gxemu to support the HDD functionality of more games?
There's only a (very) limited amount which are supported by the PS2 System Data program.
e.g. Final Fantasy X (NTSC-J) has HDD functionality but isn't supported on PS3.

I've been thinking about this the past few days, and I agree that some form of race condition is probably the most likely cause of this - either within the System Software itself or Cobra.
I've tried two and found the problem occurs on both. They're high quality SSD's - Crucial MX300 and WD 3D...
I had this issue a few years ago when I tried to swap my 60GB HDD for a 240GB WD SSD - no matter what I tried I couldn't get burned discs to work with the SSD; I tried cloning the original drive to the SSD but it made no difference, but if you want to know how I did it, I used a Windows tool...

As for determining if the drive is original or not - there's obviously no way to be 100% sure. However...
A bit off topic, but I was wondering - how reliable is HDD S.M.A.R.T data in determining the total power on hours?
Obviously this fully depends on the system having the original HDD installed, but assuming it does - can the data be trusted?
I have a CECHA12 which reports:

UPDATE
I replaced the SSD with a HDD from a different 60GB system and it's showing the same issues.
I think maybe the SSD isn't the issue - as it seems like any storage device aside from the original drive isn't working.
Hey everyone,
I recently sent my CECHA12 off for a delid and recap. When it came back I decided to upgrade the old HDD with a 240GB SSD.
For some reason, with the new SSD installed I can't play any burned media anymore - it just doesn't show up on the XMB. This goes for PS1 and PS2 games...
