    I know I sound crazy but what about somehow mirroring the ps2 vmc externally via network then loading games as multiple 8MB blocks instead of 3-4GB blocks with FAT32 or possibly 32MB or 64MB, memory cards are switchable via the pause menu at least so Softemu still has some access to the ps3...
