Yes that how they work wired. not functioning ps button and "dualshock". ps3 handles them as "not oem controller".

download the update from sony and update from usb. you dont need to enable any plugin in web browser. if the time is incorrect it will not connect. so first update the console to latest firmware, as i said from usb and then proceed further.
