I had considered this too, hilarious that anyone used to think that would fix anything. ABS plastic can deform around 90-100c if exposed for too long.
When I read through syscon errors I noticed 1214 could be related to the 3034, southbridge hitting thermal limits, shutting down maybe...
Been working on a CECHA00 recently, 72 days run time, 1001 and 1002 errors in syscon.
Pulled the console apart, cleaned it up, delidded both cell and RSX, both came off easily and clean, no damage to substrates or die for either. Cleaned everything up with 99% iso, reassembled and was met with...
EDIT: Solved this, didn't realize the console power needed to be switched off before these changes I made would take effect!
I'm working with a CECHE01 that is delidded and undervolted, have been running the webman 68c for a while. System runs cool, but it'll occasionally hit 68c and the fans...
I've got a bunch of CECHA00 and CECHB00 that I have started to mess around with undervolting and one is really kicking my ass.
Japanese CECHA00, original 90nm RSX and CELL, back tokins replaced with tantalizers. I did not take initial voltages from the board, from the others I have messed with...
Only the cooler, the lower shell and back panel are in great shape, I would expect to see massive warping on them too if heat was introduced from the outside. It is equally warped all the way around too, CMOS battery holder looks totally fine as well as the fan.
I didn't even consider someone would try to put the entire board and cooler into the oven as a unit, that is absolutely absurd and beyond lazy, even for a half assed attempt.
I guess time will tell!
I recently got an interesting CECHB00 from Japan. Was listed as a working console, but when I received it that was only kind of true.
Noticed the console had been opened, it powered on, booted to XMB then after about 45sec it YLOD. I decided to pull it apart and get syscon errors and found an...
Hello,
Been browsing here for a while gathering information on PS2 and PS3 modding and repair.
Have repaired/refurbished a huge number of PS2 consoles with the help of PMAP and tons of info I have found here.
Recently got into PS3 repair/refurbishment, used the great threads posted around to...
Honestly everything looks as it should.
Lets back up a bit, you say its overheating, how did you come to this conclusion originally? What originally made you take it apart and delid? Is the console shutting down with 3 beeps after about 50 seconds? Is the fan ramping up before it shuts down...
Really doesn't look too terrible, but if its on the surface there is a possibility its between the copper and aluminum too.
If you pull it back apart, maybe start it up without the case and see if you can feel any heat transferring to the heatpipes or heatsink. If everything in the cooler stays...
All of that sounds good, as long as there is proper pressure and spread of the paste and the fan is working, the only real next issue would be the heatsink its self. Do you have CFW installed to be able to see the temps in real-time?
CECHC should use the style cooler with copper heat pipes and...
How much thermal paste are you using? I've seen issues when too much/too little is applied, you don't need much at all.
Cell only needs a small line down the middle of the die and a dab on top of IHS above the die
RSX I like to do a small dab at the center and smaller drops on each corner for...
Got my hands on a Japanese CECHA recently that seems to be in great overall shape with relatively low runtime. First think I noticed was the blue LED indicator flashing on startup then going solid like the console had a disk in it, but the XMB didn't show any disk and nothing would eject so I...
