PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Would a APS-231 in a CECHAXX (with a 40nm RSX) be ideal due to the reduced power requirements or is a APS-226 still recommended?

    PS3 60GB SD card compatability

Looks like they showed up well enough, but you are saying you can not read/write to them on the PS3? Which adapters are you using with the 1TB cards? Some reviews said the SanDisk ones are confirmed to work for 512gb and the ProDuo ones are 128gb max.

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

Yes, I linked to one of the failed attempts earlier in the thread (real shame). Suppose that, in the end, 40nm CELL doesn't get all too hot anyway.

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

Just an update. Went back and forth on which one to ultimately go with, but decided to try and find an early 2010 25xx. After a lot of searching was able to score a 25xx from the first production run of July 2010 on 4.81 firmware and MinVerChk reports 3.40 support. Needless to say, a resounding...

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Ah, I see. I was unaware of the technical terms for the said components. Did you consider the 65nm RSX at all or set on 40nm? I was reading that the 65nm RSX supports downgrading firmware below 3.15 for those that every wanted to go back to OFW for OtherOS while I believe someone posted the 40nm...

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

For those that don't know what is the CXD5300GGP and Tantilizer cards? Was the RSX changed too?

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

It seems the 25XX has updated BR components, but also ISH on CELL is solderd on all/most models. Are you or anyone else here aware of other hardware differences between the 21xx and the 25xx? I found several 25XX manufactured in the very first production run. These are 99% CFW for sure. Is there...

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

From what I was reading, those made before December 2010 SHOULD be a safe bet. I was also looking at a few Japanese 25xx, but oddly, they do not seem to have Date Codes or Manufacture Dates on them for their slims. So no way to test without access for MinVerChecker.

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

I was going to bump this post about it, but very old so just made a new one. ;) https://www.psx-place.com/threads/cech2501a-delid-gone-bad.29324/

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

Thanks. By chance do you know if all 25xx models have the CELL ISH soldered or not or is only later build dates in 2011 rather then 2010 build dates?

    Slim 21XX vs 25XX

Out of these two models, which is the ideally recommended? From what I was reading it seems both are well made and will last along time. Is it correct the only major difference is that the 25XX Blu-Ray doesn't need to be re-married and can also be removed if it fails and that CFW only possible...

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Haven't been on for a few days but thanks for the replies about the Cell Frankie possibilities. It is interesting stuff for sure, but like was said, would add a lot of complexity and new point for failure for the console. Still would like to have a CECHA/COK-001 modded with a 45nm RSX at some...

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Well you give me some pause now after purchasing having already purchased a CECHA00/COK-001 that I wanted to have a 45nm RSX installed on. Doesn't the COK-002 remove the EE/GS chip though and perform PS2 using software?

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Indeed, sounds like a lot of effort for a very old console with smaller and smaller user base. Does this pin-out connection issue remain for the 65nm CELL as well or only 45nm process? And in the end, does the CELL even get that hot after a delided (with fresh thermal paste even on 90nm) to make...

PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

What about CECHA/COK-001 systems makes it prone to issues after a RSX Frankenstein compared to other SKUs/Motherboards? Is the PS2 blackscreen an issue with the RSX of 65/40 nm not being able to communicate wit the PS2 EE/GS? On a side note, is CELL Frankenstein ever going to be a thing? Taking...
