Hi folks, because threads like these tend to lose images as they get older, I've compiled the first 53 pages into a huge PDF. Just for reference's sake in the future

Cool. Once I've soldered the wires on though it will be impossible to put the MB shield on. Are you using a standard ATX power supply and is it safe to run the PS3 without a heatsink?
Thanks. It looks like a computer's serial port speaks RS-232 so I should just get a simple USB-UART converter instead. But this article says I should connect ground and Vcc too, and psdevwiki doesn't mention anything of the sort. Wouldn't power flow from the PS3 to my USB-UART bridge, or the...
I think by reading the syscon firmware one can figure out what exactly do the beeps mean in a YLOD or whatever.
Recently I saw this:

Great, I see the keys are posted on...
I replaced all Tokins on my CECHC04, and it still doesn't work, but the startup behaviour is different. Before, the fan would spin up immediately and 3 beeps, 3 beeps. Now, it takes longer until the fan spins up, and then I just get 3 beeps (once).
How can I troubleshoot this now? The only...
Hi squeept, I haven't seen that video since your Youtube account was deleted already by the time I got around to it.
But I'd like to know how you connected the motherboard to the oscilloscope, since AFAIK you have to put the metal shield on to put the heatsink on to boot the system (talking...
The more I read, the more it seems that ESR drifting away from spec on the Proadlizers is the problem here, not the capacitance. Remember, you want low ESR, not high.
Also remember that the Proadlizers are basically welded sheets of aluminum with silver paste in between as electrolyte.
From...
Very clean job. I'm in a similar situation with my CECHC04, replaced 4 Tokins on the underside of the board, and I have definitely noticed a change in the timing of the YLOD. Waiting for more capacitors to arrive, but it feels like it'll work.
I found a detail here
https://www.nec.com/en/global/techrep/journal/g09/n01/pdf/090119.pdf
for another capacitor by NEC that details how temperature affects ESR.
This other document describes how the Proadlizer is constructed...
How did you get the PS3 running with those voltage probes attached to it? IIRC I had to put the metal shields back on the motherboard to install the heatsink, and those block everything.
I'm trying to archive naked_snake's TOKIN capacitor thread but it's got so many pages, and there is no printable option. Could you enable viewing more posts per page/a printable view?
It operated normally once, when I first got it and plugged it in immediately. Even then, the fan was gradually stepping up into a roar. So I took it apart and cleaned it and put it back together again.
Now, it stays green for a second or two, and then YLOD, blinking RLOD before anything comes...
I haven't delidded them. I just took the heatsink off again, and rescrewed the bolts on, making sure to tighten them evenly. In the end all screws were just tight enough not to turn anymore, but not tighter. The fan still spins up as if there was an emergency cooling situation.
It should work...
