Turns out it was an activation issue after all. I didn't know PS1 and PSP worked without the activation. I got it activated and now it's working fine. Thanks so much for all your support. Best regards

Boot your PS3 in safe mode (hold down power button till it turns on and off; hold down again and release after three beeps) and select system update with the hfw on X:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP Had the same problem and was able to install it like this
