Well in this thread you've listed the 870 EVO in the highest tier of compatibility, so if that one doesn't work I'm not sure which one will. Maybe better to get an SHDD then.

I don't think so, is that a PS3 feature? As far as I was aware that was a PS4 thing. Also, I tried multi-output and using the A/V port for audio, which eliminates this issue, however I'd still like to know how I can just use the HDMI out.

I've been having a similar issue. I use a VGA monitor on my console gaming setup, and for my PS3 I recently switched from A/V to HDMI using a Tendak Active HDMI to VGA converter (which splits the audio to a 3.5mm jack) The startup & menu sounds will play, but all the sound stops after booting...

Ok I just put the retail HDD back in and everything works as normal again, so it was definitely a problem with the SSD. I guess my question now is what 1+TB internal storage should I buy that won't have this issue?
