Also check C3247. Last week I replaced the Q6010 chip, but it didn't fix the problem. Last night I discovered that this cap was shorted (1 ohm). So if there is no obvious burn mark or damage to Q6010, measure the resistance across C3247. It should be fairly high.
Slight correction: C3247 is the cap for the 12v supply to the BD connector, not the 5v supply. If you look closely at the schematic, the lines cross, but they are not connected by a little dot. On first read I thought the same thing, but from probing the board I knew it was not the case, and...
I just tracked down a similar problem. Replaced the Q6010 chip, but didn't solve the problem. Tracked it down to a shorted output filter cap, C3247. It's a 47uF 25V tantalum cap that apparently filters the 12V supply to the BD. It's the large black thing with the silver band on one end near...
I have also replaced the chip with a substitute from Mouser, with no luck. What you want is the "sony_playstation3_service_manual.pdf" which I found on the gamingdoc.org website (not sure if we're allowed to post entire links). Make sure you get the right one. Looks like they links are...
A couple of ther threads have documented this, and there is a video on YouTube on how to replace the Q6010 chip. Replacement parts are about $1 from Mouser or DigiKey, but you have to pay for shipping. Ends up at about $11 for a pack of 10 parts (to get the quantity discount). Look for the...
