Wow, that's truly unfortunate. I really thought that would be our path to 1000mhz+. Be interested in seeing the thermal efficiency, the way the heat pipe attaches to the 28nm die kinda sucks.
Been a long time since I posted here... Anyway, has anyone successfully overclocked the super slim with the 28nm RSX using the badupdate method and more over, what were the stable clocks if they had? The 28nm max overclock is my current unicorn.
So long story short, my dad is into old revolvers and looked into electroplating and was telling me about it. I instantly thought of thermal applications after seeing this. My first project will be nickel plating a PS3 heatsink, so as that you can use liquid metal between the IHS and heatsink.
Gotcha, thanks for the reply Aldo. I'm just really curious to see if the different RSX die sizes have a stability difference. One would assume (and yes I know full CFW isn't available for them YET) the 28nm RSX in the last run of Super Slims would require less power draw, leaving more head room...
Could this potentially be used to test different RSX overclocked firmwares without having to worry about the need to refresh if it's unstable?

I too would like someone to upload a 650mhz .pup, yes I understand it's probably unstable but I would like to see if it's a silicon lottery situation. Not like I can't always revert back...
I've swapped in SSDs to a number of my old consoles, original Xbox, 360, PS2, 3DO (yes a 3DO) and an iMac G3. All having been working fine since, I don't think the PS3 will be any different.
Just got done playing some Battlefield 4 with the overclock. It definitely plays smoother, before it was hot garbage with what felt like single digit fps at times.
I just got a super slim 28nm RSX I'm hoping I'll be able to OC eventually. I believe this thing has a huge overhead. Will be interesting to see if they can handle higher clocks on the chip and memory. Got it for $50... I won't mind putting it through hell.
I'm truly shocked this thread isn't absolutely pumping... This overclock has reinvigorated my love for the PS3. Who doesn't want their PS3 games to play better???
