I haven't personally tried this, but it's worth adding to the resources section purely for the sakes of being able to find it again.
It's unknown who created this mod of the emulator, and while the performance can be lower than the more recent versions (particularly when there are a large amount of sprites on screen) the majority of the audio issues are apparently fixed, so it's probably something worth looking into for yourself.
