HEN is not running when you enter safe mode so the problem is elsewhere.

You might wanna check that the usb device is recognised by the system. If you can see it in the pictures, videos or music column, it is fine otherwise it means the partition is not recognised by the ps3, probably because it is not partitioned with MBR (GPT partitions are not supported).

And don't use usb hubs.

it does show up under pictures, videos, and music, which is why im confused. ive tried multiple usb's too

Have you checked the folder structure?, it must be PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP?

i did do that, and i checked that i didnt misspell anything

in most PS3 models (slim or super slim) if you take out the HDD and format it in your computer, everything will be wiped out, including HEN.
Once you put the HDD back, the ps3 will ask for the firmware PUP file to install everything from scratch. There you could just use OFW 4.88

ok, thanks, ill try it now and give an update

If ever that doesn't work & you are sure about your usb device & the integrity of the HFW or OFW PUP file, it will leave few possibilities, you would be looking at a hardware issue or having applied a patch meant for CFW like a permanent spoof or whatever, there are some features in a number of tools made for CFW such as the Rebug Toolbox that should not be used with HEN.
And if you don't want to lose all your data on the internal hdd for nothing, you can do the test with another hdd, if the installation succeeds, you will know that the problem is with your hdd otherwise no need to reformat it.

So it's a superslim 12Gb?
If so you could always try putting a sata hdd in it, see if the installation succeeds on hdd.

With a 12Gb superslim running on emmc memory, chances are the issue isn't related to the storage space though. You should try anyway if you have a spare sata hdd handy, it will take a few minutes & you never know but if I had to guess I think I would lean in favour of either the hardware issue or the case of a CFW patch that should not have been applied, again assuming that the PUP is valid, the device partitioned correctly, the file path correct & in upper case, no USB hub, no fancy USB devices the simpler the better, etc..

yea it is a super slim 12gb. ill let you know what happens when i try this
If I were you, I would also post a full browser screenshot of the PS3 Toolset with the Flash memory manager tab opened. That would provide us with additional useful details to help us assess the situation.
Don't forget to hide the idps (use the dedicated context menu feature).

*UPDATE* ive noticed that when im in safe mode to do the system update, at the bottom under system update, it says "System Storage In Use: Flash Memory". in the tutorials i watched for how to uninstall hen, this pop up does not show up at the bottom. does this have anything to do with the problem?

do you have any other social medias, where we could take this privately? it would be a lot easier for me since im new to all of this, and i have the flash memory tab opened and ill send a screenshot

No sorry, I don't use social media & I never do tech support privately anyway except sometimes to inspect bugs in my own development projects that I cannot reproduce.

What firmware did you install twice?
Ofw 4.87 or hfw 4.87?

Overall there is nothing apparently wrong with your flash memory ros regions, everything seems normal so far.

Check the console idps just in case, it is a very long shot but it takes only a few seconds.
This is a model of idps, it is 16 bytes long:
00 00 00 01 00 89 00 0B 14 00 EF DD CA 25 52 66

Byte 6 (0x89) is the product code also called target id.
Retail CEX product codes go from 0x83 to 0x8F according to world regions, if it is lower or higher, the update will fail. Make sure yours is within the range, if not, report the problem to us.

Try the hdd installation too & let us know.
