PS3 Toolset Crashes CFW-compatible Console

Hey all,
I'm completely new to the PS3 jailbreaking scene and yesterday I tried to jailbreak my CECHA01 by following a tutorial on YouTube. I was on OFW 4.84 when I started, and the tutorial instructed me to use PS3 Toolset as part of it (from what I understand I have to go into the "Flash Memory Manager" or something.) When I load the site, I accept the plugin, and my console crashes after a few seconds of stillness. (A hard crash. I have to flip the physical power switch on the back.)
I've never installed any other unofficial programs or mods that could have affected this, and to my knowledge all CECHA01s are CFW-compatible. Any help on getting me onto CFW?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm.. I have no fix to offer.
I am already aware of this issue, since the PS3 Toolset release, at least half a dozen or so users have reported a crash similar to yours.
But overall, it seems quite rare though, it is a likely local problem and that makes finding a fix that much more difficult because I cannot reproduce it.
So far nobody who reported this issue has been available to spend time testing for me in order to find a fix.

Having said that, the PS3 Toolset is about to get updated for 4.87 support, some internal behaviours may change & the crash you experience may no longer be a problem.
So at this stage, I think it's better to wait before investigating further. There is no ETA for the update, it will happen after 4.87 CFWs come out.
Once the PS3 Toolset update is released, if ever you still experience the issue & are willing to help me find a fix (keep in mind it entails potentially spending a few hours testing!), I suggest you contact me again. You can post here or in the PS3 Toolset User Issues thread.

In the meantime, you could
1. try logging in with a new ps3 user profile
2. permanently enable the Flash player plugin (in the confirmation screen, check the necessary box before accepting to load the plugin). Next time you launch the PS3 Toolset you should get no plugin confirmation screen.
3. try both ethernet & wifi
4. make sure all the minimum requirements are satisfied, javascript & cookies enabled, and the ps3 system time must be correct for the ps3 location.

If you are in a hurry, you have only 2 alternatives:
1. Using a hardware flasher
2. Using the old Flash Writer exploit (for 4.84) which is no longer supported, use at your own risk.
On github, you can currently get the version for 4.85 which was the last version supported by ps3xploit. https://github.com/PS3Xploit/flash-writer
But you can use the github repo history to get the 2.0.1 version for 4.84. Remember to install HFW 4.84 before using the Flash Writer. 2.0.1.
