No, if you are on 4.83, there is currently no alternative way to jailbreak, only hardware flashing. It might still take some months but it's only a matter of time before a ps3xploit update or another source changes that. Plenty of vulnerabilities to exploit if anyone is interested.

Exactly, when this kind of things happen being pesimistic is the most mentally sane approach imo
Otherway you are going to be in a rollercoaster of feelings, and wasting time trying to find randomly in google alternative ways to hack the console and this converts you in a target for scammers

The sad true is you have been "trapped" by official firmware 4.83
And the only good thing you have by now is ps3xploit team seems to be optimistic
