Probably because of different PS2 versions? I'd like to help more but all I got is an OEM MC and a Slim 77001. I also have a 'probably' fake MC with FMCB preinstalled from Amazon, and it works fine too. Edit: Just realized they are all all tge same versions. I'm out of ideas haha.

Have you ever tried a PS2 to HDMI adapter? I bought the one that's the complete wire and a USB cable that you connect just beside your HDMI inlet on your TV, not the black box type. I find the image quality a little better but I'm not really into that.

San Andreas and NFS Underground 2 did that to me. Changing those 2 games' options to Mode 1 did the trick.

Does everybody just know what this does and how to install it? To a noob's eye, this looks chinese. No information on what it is, what it does, no how-to?

One could check for voltage at the motor with a multimeter. My guess is the motor itself. Motor/laser assemblies sell for cheap.
