PS1 Alien Resurrection - (A cheat code to unlock boot disc feature for backups)

This is a very interesting discovery or rather disclosure from one of the developer's of the PlayStation 1 (PS1) game Alien Resurrection (Martin Piper) who had reached out to YouTuber MVG who has been given permission to disclose something that has always been there all this time in the game, but needed a cheat code to unlock the ability to run backups on a stock retail PS1, acting as a boot disc for the swap method. MVG details the process here in this video:

I had trouble finding copies of PS1 Alien Resurrection online, after reading this thread. Found several copies of Alien Trilogy and one copy of this game that was listed $75 and already had like 20 bids on online bidding site. Pretty easy to find third-party swap disks where you don't need to enter a 100-digit button combination that would make your friend who knew every Mortal Kombat fatality combo memorized blush. I know there's several easy methods well-known nowadays that will let you bypass copyright protection for less money.

Yea, i bet you will see some increased prices now.

There are for sure more practical means for the PS1 but for someone who has the game already it can be useful.
Also just interesting bit of information that its there buried in a retail game that finally gets revealed.

Oh hi, sorry, I did not know it was you. I was recently reading an article you posted celebrating 10 years of PSX-PLACE.COM. I believe you are one of the owners or co-founders of this website? Great site you got going here. I think maybe people come here after something happened at psx-scene.com? I will try and donate when I get a chance to help pay for cost of server/bandwidth/domain/bills whatever. Thanks so much!

How it works on code level? The cheatcode is long! And after we need to press a other combo for start the backup...

These stories of "game archeology" are the best, even better when the developers tell the story.
Definitely agree. Not to get too morbid here, but so many of these games are old, and it brings a real issue to game archaeology when many developers are simply no longer around anymore, legally and literally.

It was brought up recently I saw with game preservation, but thankfully developers like the ones here are able to share and tell these stories so many years later. It's unfortunate to think how many secrets lay hidden that have been taken to the grave.

I have a copy of Alien 1 dvd, but it's in Finnish and English. I can only view it on my computer not on a dvd/blu-ray player.

Just imagine how many gems like this that are in all the games now, makes a good reason to get into reversing games just to find stuff like this.
