i ended up just putting in a new drive. after taking out the old one to test a different one, it wouldn't read the old one without formatting. oh well!
I'm unable to get to the XMB as the console freezes within 10-15 seconds of me starting it up (usually around the time I reach the user selection screen)
it's not possible to do this without formatting the hard drive, correct?
if there's absolutely no other option, i'm fine with that, but i just wanted to check.

I followed the guide here step by step. Didn't change anything.
I recently updated to 4.81.2 rebug and installed the latest version of psnpatch. However, after installing the plugin, the PS3 freezes about 10 seconds after I start it up. It does not freeze in recovery mode.
Is restoring to CFW and deleting my data the only way to fix this?
