PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@RIP-Felix Well I have surpassed you then as I have foun that I have 12 PS3 systems from my friend (although one system was missing it's motherboard so I am not sure it counts.) Also have 4 other systems that I had previously before I got the extra systems from my friend ( 2 that work and 2...

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

Well it looks like my 9th system may be fixable (just not by me) by a reflow or reball as I was messing with the clamps and managed to briefly get an image before it powered down with a YLOD.

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

9th system a VER-001 board. This time I may be lucky as according to the error dump it may just be RSX VRAM power or something to do with the AV or HDMI chips. The CPU has a resistance of 7.5 ohms and the RSX 5.1 ohms. There is slight damage to the CPU where it was delided. The RSX was...

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@vyktormvmpay25 I don't currently have the correct equipment for a proper reflow or reball. The RSX in this unit has been delided by previous tech and I do not have the ihs either (none of the units I have taken apart so far that have had either the CPU or RSX or both delided have had the ihs...

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@vyktormvmpay25 Sorry about not providing measurements, the CPU is at 4.4 ohms and the RSX is at 4.2 ohms. It does take about 3 seconds to go to the YLOD issue.

@DeadEnd Sorry about the low quality photo, it is from my cheap $20 China microscope. I have more pictures from the better camera on my tablet.

In case anyone is wondering the scratch is on the CPU chip.

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@vyktormvmpay25 Looks like I was wrong on the ohm readings, the RSX measures 2.5 ohms and the CPU measures 3.3 ohms. Also found that the previous repair tech delided the CPU and the die is a bit discolored but the bigger issue is this, I think this one is toast as well.

@vyktormvmpay25 Well attempting to reflow the RAM chips did not change anything. Oh well off to the parts bin it goes.

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@vyktormvmpay25 I wonder if the buzzer got damaged when the previous repair attempt (where they delided the CPU and RSX). I guess I could try reflowing the RAM chips on the RSX as I don't have anything to loose at this point. I wonder if the RAM chips were damaged due to no thermal paste being...

PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

@vyktormvmpay25 So would that explain why the buzzer does not work? I don't have the tools to change the RSX so I guess this is another parts unit.
