    PS3 Can I CFW a CECH 2500A SS Satin Silver PS3

I haven't bought the unit. I'm cooking for early 2011 25xx units to overclock and I don't know if the SS units can run CFW.

Does anyone know which FW was shipped on these units.

Based on what I've read in this thread and my own experience I would say the min stable freq for a 25xx should be 650/850. Anything above 700/900 is good. 25xx Bad Bin: 650/850 Average Bin: 700/900 Good Bin: 750+/950+ CXD5300A1GB in my Dec 2010.

Look for a dec 2010 or jan 2011. But honestly it doesn't matter that much because most 2501 can hit 700/900 and that's all you need. If you cap and volt mod then you can probably get an extra 100mhz on core without unreasonable voltages.

you could try to calculate the vid from the checksum or probe the vrm but this is pointless because there is no reason to run the GPU below 1v. Set the voltage to 1.1v, find your max stable OC, then reduce the voltage to lower heat and fan noise. I think most folks would end up running between...

PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

I bought a 2000 heatsink. It doesn't fit on the 2500. There are 2 different spacings: the heatsink to the metal chassis and the heatsink to the motherboard. These 2 spacings are offset on the 2500 compared to the 2000 so the heatsink doesn't fit. I'd be pretty hard to try and retrofit it. I'd...

Remove the 7 factory polycaps and replace them with new poly caps and check the ripple. I guarantee you that you wouldn't see any improvement because the problem is low total capacitance.

PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Again, you're overcomplicating this. 1) We want to reduce low frequency ripple. The only way to reduce low frequency ripple is to add more capacitance. The purpose of bulk capacitance in the vrm circuit is to remove the low frequency ripple caused by the switching. 2) Adding more capacitors will...

PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

I think you're overcomplicating this. Based on your scope measurements, the 2500 series VRM has low frequency ripple. There was a little bit of high frequency noise but not too much so the MLCC were doing their job well enough...

PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Adding capacitance is what reduces low frequency ripple. A degraded cap would be a capacitor with low capacitance and lower capacitance means more low frequency ripple. So if you want to reduce the low frequency ripple then you must increase the total capacitance. In the 2500 series, I don't...
