Hi, just wanted to say that it works now. You can use buck converters with even 12V2A=24W psu-s but you need to make sure that capacitor values are good enough. I just replaced capacitors on my converter to values stated in schematic and it works great.
If you power devies from ps2 usb...
It looks like this cheap buck converter from aliexpress has two underspeced electrolytic capacitors. I will try to replace them with larger values indicated in the schematic that I found in datasheet of the XL4015 (main chip). Look at the picture.
I tried to do it today with 19V 3A psu and 5A buck conveter. It didnt work, PS2 power indicator lights up red but when powering it on it just shuts off. Probably unstable voltage or current limit... I have 75004 PS2
Ok, never mind I found workaround for users who don't like FMCB splash. There is new FMCB alternative called PS2BBL (PlayStation2-Basic-BootLoader) and it supports disabling its splash so that boot sequence of the console looks like its stock. Its on github and its opensource.
Update: after cleaning the laser it booted the disc, got past ps2 logo and first splash but got stuck on black screen after. I will try another disc brand.
Thank you for your reply.
Update: I cleaned the laser and then it started reading but got stuck with black screen after displaying the Toxic splash and GT4 Copyright screen.
Do you think there is problem with my laser or the dvd disc itself?
(it looks very cheap, not even a label on the front)
Hi, guys! What about patching Dual Layer games like Gran Turismo 4? I tried it today but it doesnt work. Applyed DualLayer patch by Toxic and MasterDisc patch 1.03. It seam like it barely reads the disc.
Hi, everyone. I have problems running Gran Turismo 4 NTSC on my 75004 PS with mechapwn.
Console works fine with PS2 Masterdiscs and PS1 backups but Dual Layer DVD of GT4 with ToxicDualLayer Patch and MasterDisc Patch doesn't work at all.
It seams to me that it doesn't even try to read it...
