I have 2 slim-consoles (2004A and 3003A) and 7 controllers (I believe 3 DS3, 2 Sixaxis and 2 that's got both DS3 and Sixaxis on them).

It seems as though for now, PSN login will be kept on PS3 (for activating system and handling the CMOS battery issue). But as you say, if one have a system one wants to activate, better do it asap just to be sure.
