OPL Scanner

PS2 OPL Scanner 1.0.0.24

The download file doesn't even have the proper extension.
The app comes with a bloatware of music and the art is just straight taken from OPL Manager's own archive.org backups, not a database of it's own. This brings nothing new to the table. Heck, it can't even read an ul.cfg file, which is not hard by any means.
This is just a loud bright looking software that performs badly the tasks it is supposed to do and steals from other app's community's effort.

Wow, a negative review, without a doubt this is already beginning to attract attention. The best thing for a company is for them to "speak bad or good about it" but let them talk.

You remind me of those who "criticize" a "sketch" before the drawing is finished, never waiting until the artist finishes his work.
You even throw prejudices saying things like "it doesn't offer anything new" without investigating its development, let's look at your "criticisms".

"The download file doesn't even have the proper extension."

Answer=The file is decompressed regardless of whether it has an extension or not, therefore it is not essential to have it, in fact I clarified it in the "discussion" you have to read more.

"The app comes with a bloatware of music and the art is just straight taken from OPL Manager's own archive.org backups, not a database of it's own."

Answer=In fact, "OPL Manager" does not have its database in archive.org, another prejudice, the archive account is mine, I would not risk losing information by taking the account of "others".
Even "OPL Manager" is missing many images that can be found in the OPL Scanner updates. I did the tests myself and not only that, I have also worked on editing some images that you can't find anywhere, another prejudice for not have the habit of reading.
Wait, you want to run a community-wide job for one man like this server? You're kidding kid.
The pack I found was from imkira3 who worked on converting the sizes into 8 bits, something that "OPL Manager" did not have until later it was included, which curiously, imkira3's work had been undervalued until OPL Scanner arrived.

"This brings nothing new to the table. "

Answer=Another prejudice, my grandmother said, people speak only because they have a "mouth", in addition to some editions I will tell you my itinerary, and that is to update those images in the backgrounds to improve them, I don't even mention that OPL Scanner gives you the configuration files in automatic unlike "OPL Manager" where you have to edit them with the tool.
There are many missing, that's true, that's why I gave an example of a "sketch", the work is hard and more for one person, I made it clear that contributions for the metadata are accepted but instead there are only complaints and more complaints, That makes the work take longer, you know?

"Heck, it can't even read an ul.cfg file, which is not hard by any means."

Answer=Each author does his work as he wants and to the extent his abilities allow him, it does not have to be to everyone's liking, you have to know that USB Util is being obsolete so I see no point in breaking your head when the user can simply use OPL Scanner first and then use useful USB, but if it is very easy for you then you should make your own "scraper", for me, don't stop.

"This is just a loud bright looking software that performs badly the tasks it is supposed to do and steals from other app's community's effort."

Answer=More prejudices, all the tools that OPL Scanner provides work well, now that it does not have the functions that your whims demand it is already very different not that the program works badly, capisci?

I only know of one community and it is "screenscraper" of which I have complemented the database by providing metadata that is available to anyone, whether for projects or personal use.
It is a shame that you see projects like "OPL Scanner" and "OPL Manager" as "rivals" but that is the distortion of the reality that you project yourself, in reality they are contributions for a common good.

Finally, thank you for the "little star" I will put it on my "Christmas tree".
Nice.
