PS3 2001a Slim + Evilnat 4.90 noBD - No Drive at all - Won't boot ISO or Games

I have a 2001a Slim that has no BD. This is my first time dealing with custom firmware so, maybe I missed something important.

So far I can only run games I install from PKG files, but games I FTP to the HDD Games folder will not boot from anything I have tried. Multiman, Irisman, and Webman. They show up and pass all tests and I can even install updates for them but, they all go to a black screen then just dump me back at the XMB when I launch them.

ISO files will show an error saying they are not the correct format message when launched from mulitman. Webman shows an error when loading, and Irisman just dumps me back to the XMB after a black screen.

My assumption was that cobra would still work even without a BD daughter board installed when using Evilnat noBD, is this wrong? Or am I just missing a setting somewhere that will let me boot these games?

I would appreciate any help here. I have tried 4 different games, they all have the same issue.

Unfortunately, you can not run mounted ISOs with a no BD CFW because no Cobra payload is loaded.

You'll need to get a working BD daughter board and remarry it to the console, in order to install a full CFW. If the BD daughter board happens to be integrated to the motherboard, then you will not be able to change it.

You may try installing Mamba payload and check if it will load the ISOs, but I've not found any success report on that front.

EDIT:

There is another, more cumbersome way involving Fake BDEmu and converting your console to DEX, if you want to give it a try: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/nobd-issues-mounting-iso.12451/page-2#post-70211

if you got a working daughterboard that's married to your PS3 then it will mount ISO. noBD has some limitations when it comes to loading PS2 games and ISO files.

Thank you for this information! I really appreciate it. I have 2 busted daughter boards I am playing around with trying to get one to work. I also ordered a working board which will be here soon enough.

If that doesn't work... as I did have to replace the Ribbon cable connector on the Main board using a connector from one of these daughter boards, I will look into DEX and the fake BDEmu option. For now I would prefer to get a working drive in this system. It was in really bad shape but I bought it for $25, so no real worries. I'm glad I at least got it working this far.

Ok Update: I was able to get one of these busted Logic Boards (the drive is constantly trying to eject) married, though it showed 2 errors when I tried, but it looks like it went through anyway. I got the key while in the noBD version, then switched over to the normal version and tried the remarry option and ....

I was able to mount an ISO from irisman, boot / update / and install a game. So at least it's working. I will probably just leave the logic board in and take the drive out for now so I don't have to listen to the constant eject noise.

thanks for the help! Hopefully the replacement logic board fixes this drive and I can remarry that easily!
