PS3 4.78 Starbucks + COBRA v7.30 by Habib

{UPDATE - FEB.16) The new COBRA V7.30 has arrived and its included in Habib's latest cfw release 4.78 STARBUCKS (COBRA), comes equipped with the latest version of COBRA (v7.30). With this latest version of Cobra developer's Habib & Mysis were able to finally eliminate some of the limitation and annoyances in Cobra's PS2emu, such as the controller sync issue when launching PS2ISO from the XMB's disc icon. While habib himself provided a workaround using the PS2 Launcher, this bug has finally been squashed. There was also some other changes in this update to Cobra's PS2emu [break]ss[/break] that should improve the overall experience. Habib firmware comes with his usual patches and features such as OtherOS compatibility & CINAVIA patches, view all the details of this firmware in the release details provided by developer habib.

Generally speaking, you can disable Cobra by renaming stage2.bin in /dev_flash/sys/xxxx
xxxx being different on different CFW flavours.
To enable Cobra again rename it back to original name.

I remember on 4.46 habib had said that renaming stage2.bin was not risky at all when using debug lv1.
Am not sure using debug lv1 is still mandatory...
Personally I disable Cobra by renaming stage2.bin without a debug lv1. Never had any problems.
Maybe habib will confirm.

As always, remember that modifying /dev_flash in general is not without risk. You should only do this if you know what you are doing.

There was never a problem for renaming stage2.bin lol
I dont think i ever mentioned anything about lv1 for this

Btw in later cobra revisions i added a new payload which fixes compatibility with some programs when cobra disabled (aka stage0_base and modified stage0)

Perhaps an easy way to disable cobra would be using gamesonic manager or webman mod

I'm not updating Cobra features though like you stated(7.0 to 7.3) . This is a straight jump from Rogero 4.55 CFW to 4.78 CFW. So, even a straight jump to this 4.78 CFW requires that all my games & game data(patches, etc.) will have to be re-installed again? If so, that sucks for me! I have a ton to be re-installed. I might hold of longer now to jump to a newer CFW. There's on only a couple of games right now that I want to play that would force me to make that jump. :banghead:
Do you have any gamedata currently on your ps3 that was installed while your ps3 was on a cobra 7.0 or 7.1 firmware? If the answer is no then you can update to habib's 4.78 and you shouldn't have to reinstall anything.:)

Found it again habib,I didn't dream it.
Look at this thread

Whatever you meant, I still renamed stage2.bin all that time anyway! ☺️

That was stage1 of lv2 with cobra payload
I was still kinda wrong, stage 1 works be it release or debug
Btw since the payload is aware of these situations since 7.03 (?) It erases payload from memory and prevents htab write by stage0

That's cool.
Cheers for the confirmation & explanation.
I knew the payload had changed, I still need to take the time to look at the new Cobra 7.3 source I downloaded.

most interesting, as long as i don't have the option to disable it inside any app, i'm good with that.

Well gamesonic or wMM could do it.
Personally I find it easier/faster to enable /dev_blind & rename stage2.bin by ftp or with a file manager.

However you should do whatever you feel comfortable with.

WebmanMOD have a pad shorcut that says toggle cobra. I think that is your looking for
ah thanks! i disabled all pad shortcuts that i didn't bother looking at them anymore. didn't know disabling cobra can only be done with pad shortcuts.

Shortcut to toggle Cobra with wMM L3+L2+/\

I tried that last night and it doesn't appear to work.
Get the message saying cobra toggle, but ps2/ps3 iso files will still load and play fine immediately after toggling or after a restart.

unless im misunderstanding how it works.

Report it on webMAN-MOD General thread. Aldo will tell you if the problem is with your setup or not.

Someone else can. I give aldos enough extra work to do.
I kinda downloaded a cobra firmware for well.... cobra. :)

My system is useless without it now since re ripping everything as iso. Well worth it though. :)

If I reported every issue I get on my cechlxx I think theyd ban me for flooding hahaha

I will try the combo later on when I get home & see if it works on my system.

However is the combo to toggle Cobra checked at the bottom of the wMM setup page? That could be the problem!

yeah. i normally disable all the combos bar unloading webman. Just enabled it and tested it last night when I saw the original question on toggling cobra to see if I could help, but it didn't work so I kept hush. :)

Yeah full edition 1.43.26, but i removed the vsh plugin from auto loading.
Fairly clean install too. Put new hdd in and installed over ofw so shouldn't be any conflicting old files.

Also have psnpatch and mm installed. Other then that its a clean system.

TBH I have not tried disabling Cobra with the combo for a while. The fact that Cobra has changed shouldn't matter at all.
When the combo works, I assume that all it does is renaming stage2.bin anyway. Cannot remember how exactly, either stage2_disabled.bin or stage2.bin.bak, something like that.
Edit
You can check in /dev_flash/sys/
What do you see there before using the combo & after?
In any case, if it renames stage2.bin then the combo works & you must reboot afterwards to see the effects if wMM doesn't do it for you.
