Package Manager is a replacement for the standard Install Package Files option under Game in the XMB. It allows for the install and deletion of .pkg files from dev_hdd0/packages, dev_usb/packages and the standard Install Package Files locations. In addition to this, your downloaded PSN content 'bubbles' will appear under this option instead of cluttering your Game menu with uninstalled content.

    USAGE:

Navigate to Game in your XMB and click on Package Manager (It will be where Install Package Files usually is). You will find three options.
    • PlayStation®Network Content
      Manage your downloaded PlayStation®Network Content.
    • Install Package Files
INSTALL package files from Storage Devices and your PS3. PS3 Hard Disk (dev_hdd0/packages)
Package Folder (dev_usb/packages) Standard Package Location (Standard Install Package Files locations) NOTE: The Install All Packages is only available by pressing the TRIANGLE button when the Standard Package Location option is highlighted because the PS3 will only install ALL packages from the root of a storage device as of the moment.
    • Delete Package Files : DELETE package files from Storage Devices and your PS3.
      • PS3 Hard Disk (dev_hdd0/packages)
      • Package Folder (dev_usb/packages)
      • Standard Package Location (Standard Install Package Files locations)
      • DELETING FILES:
        • 1: Highlight the file you would like to delete and press TRIANGLE. The sidebar should appear.
        • 2: Press CROSS on either Unlink or Unlink(Folder) (Both do the same thing for now).

  • What is Cobra 7.XX?
Cobra 6.0 and lower was CobraUSB and needed a USB dongle to use its unique features,. This was the first product by the Cobra Team who is now behind the CobraODE. After the Cobra Team launched the first ODE device, Community News Writer STLcardsWS inquired about the future of the CobraUSB device as it seemed to be shelved (unofficially at the time). STLcardsWS according to the Cobra Team Representative Magneto asked if the device could be made open source for the community, since the team had all but moved onto ODE products. That is when Team Cobra gave in and threw a bone to the PS3 Homebrew Community. Shortly, after that time is when we seen the first official source code release of CobraUSB (link of this story). While this proved to be a huge advancement in the PS3 development community it however was a rough release as it contained all the USB security source code also. While developer's like u$er was able to use parts and makes sense of some of the functions (which helped create PRX Loader, the first plugin system for the PS3)., most developer struggled with the source as it had alot of unnecessary parts included to protect the USB device when the Cobra Devs wanted to keep this system closed sourced. .

Several weeks later, the Lead CobraUSB developer (who was not aware of the first release when it happened) released the first Dongle-Less Cobra CFW using Rogero's 4.46 CFW as a base. The developer also updated Cobra 6.0 to Cobra 7.0 with new features and cleaned the source removing all the security garbage (link to this story). Thus making it a complete release with full instructions and details for scene developers. Since that time we have seen its evolve and added to many CFW's. Below you can view some of the features that are built into Cobra System with some additional explanations.

    How to Enable Cobra Features:

    • By default COBRA 7.3 is disabled, to enable the Cobra Features simply access the REBUG Toolbox.
    INSTALL:
1: On the XMB select Package Manager
    2:
    Select Install Package Files
    3:
    Select PS3 System Storage
    4:
    Select REBUG-TOOLBOX-02.02.09.pkg
    5:
    Access Rebug Toolbox from XMB
6: Scroll to 2nd column Selector, and select 3rd option Toggle Cobra Mode
    7:
Select Enable, and system will reboot with Cobra now enabled on the CFW.

Folder rips are NOT compatible with PSNPatch's stealth mode due to its ability to disable COBRA's disc-less feature for folder JB rips****

Plugins are loaded in the following way:
    • text file: /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt shall contain a plugin path per line.
    How to Install a Plugin:
    • Copy plugin_name.sprx to you internal ps3 hdd (ex: /dev_hdd0/).
    • Create or Edit boot_plugins.txt in the root of the hdd (/dev_hd00/boot_plugins.txt) and add a line for the new plugin. Assuming you placed the sprx also in the root of the disk, add: /dev_hdd0/plugin_name.sprx). Add a new line for each plugin.

    COBRA 7.3 PS2 Features (4.80 Cobra)

    PlayStation 2 on NON-BC Consoles
Software (SW) Emulation:Support for PS2 ISOs in non BC consoles was removed in Cobra 4.30 (usb), due tops2_softemu missing. It has been re-enabled now by hacking of ps2_netemu. You can use it in the same way as before, just load an ISO and launch from disc icon, Cobra core takes care of rest. No need for encrypted isos, isos patched with limg sectors, etc. Just your normal PS2 isos dumped from discs. However, there is NO SUPPORT for Optical Discs in PS2_NETEMU.

    Note 1:
Don't forget to set the memory cards in XMB, in the old memory card utility for PS/PS2, as ps2_netemu won't let you assign them in game.
as long as you use the new ps2 launcher.

PlayStation 2 on BC and Semi-BC Consoles
Hardware (HW) Emulation: PS3 Models: CECHA, CECHB, CECHC and CECHE Backwards Compatible (BC) Consoles will still use their respetive emulators(ps2_emu, ps2_gxemu), which have much better compatibility and also support optical discs, original or backup.

    **IMPORTANT INFORMATION**

    COBRA MODE
    • COBRA mode / webMAN currently disabled by default, if you want to use COBRA 7.3 features, please enable Cobra mode via REBUG TOOLBOX 2.02.09. Users of previous Cobra CFW 4.55 / COBRA7 and below may experience issues with some games due to improved cobra payload that has updated permission patch, in this case. ***Remove old game data and re-install the game if you run into weird issues. Previous Cobra payload still had its old patches that were used for USB Dongle and mmCM, but not anymore, and this fixes the issue with all non-working games with Cobra. non-Cobra users will not have this problem since their data were not corrupted by old cobra payload.

  • QA SUPPORT
    • QA is supported in all REBUG FIRMWARE. It is good practice to enable QA for a smoother experience on any CFW not just REBUG.

    OTHEROS++ SUPPORT

    • OtherOS++ is supported by all REBUG REX EDITIONS and will detect your existing OtherOS HDD partition.
    • However none of the REBUG REX EDITIONS have emer_init.self patched (create smaller GameOS partition). We are working on a solution to this from GameOS.
    • In the meantime if you do want to create an OtherOS partition you have two options:
    • 1: Use a ANY 3.55 or 4.xx firmware that already has emer_init.self patched to the size you want.
    • 2: Patch REBUG 3.xx , 4.xx REX EDITION in PS3MFW Builder MOD by Haxxxen
The related thread regarding ps3mfwbuilder MOD
with this MFW Builder MOD, you can make your own CFW with the feature that allows you to create regions on vFLASH/NAND for OtherOS installation
    • If you choose option 2 we highly recommend that you ONLY patch emer_init.self (Make sure to select BASE MFW VERSION and Create OtherOS HDD Region on mfwbuilder).

Try re-installing CFW (sometimes files get corrupted on install, kappens with OFW also)

Sounds like your hdmi cable, try a different one and see if that changes anything.

Also since 4.78 REBUG i have been having a really strange problem with fat ps3's. If you do not enable COBRA mode after enabling Webman in the toolbox the fan does not start: / I unfortunately burnt out one ps3 already because of this problem a CBEH1000. But i have 3 other console i have tested with one CECH2051B slim model, one CBEH1000 fat model, and lastly a CBEH1300 FAT Model. Both fat models had to have this done, being a backwards compatible i did not think cobra needed to be enabled at all: / After an hour of being on i got a red blinking light on boot.. So i started to wonder what was going on. I installed the same firmware to my other fat and got the same result as it started the fan was completely silent.. So i immediately shut it down and went online to find a fan control app. Found one and it look as tho the tool did not have the privileges to access anything in the fan control itself. Everything was unresponsive in the app. So i began to research online for anyone that had the problem also. Found a guy on a thread over at PS3HAX that said enabling COBRA would resolve the issue. And sure enough all i did was jump into rebug toolbox and enable cobra, soft reboot and boom my fan kicked right on. This is something that FAT ps3 owners need to be aware of or it needs to be fixed as it only happens with FAT ps3's. Have not found a way to contact any of the dev's yet. Hopefully one of them reads this:p

without enabling cobra, there is no way to execute code at boot. if you run cfw without cobra then you have to use another stand alone package for the fan controller. the fan control payload can only be executed at boot with cobra turned ON. so it doesnt matter if you have a slim/fat ps3, if you want fan control to work on boot, you better enable cobra ;)

Hi guys, everybody praises REBUG cfw and it's well known in the community so I may say great job guys. I personally use HABIB's cfw cause it's simple and practical. Could you tell me some advantages / disadvantages on using REBUG's?

Here is something: http://www.psx-place.com/threads/cobra-vs-mamba-vs-rebug-rex.1637/
Btw. habib is a member of rebug team.

There is nothing more complicated in Rebug comparing to Habib cfw for most users. You just need to one time go to Rebug Toolbox to enable cobra and webman. Later you have simple cfw like other ones. But... You can go advanced in every moment if you want on Rebug. Want load habib lv2? Go to toolbox and load from usb. Want dump eid root key? Go to toolbox, and do this. Want convert to DEX? Go to toolbox and do flashless conversion, want install cfw setup by mysis? Don't need to, go to toolbox enable it. There are more advanced options but until you want to mess with them rebug is a simple cfw.

Hmm well my point in the situation is that before REBUG had a cobra mode this was not an issue. I had never burnt out any of my ps3's because an option was not enabled. This was not something i was aware of. I understand that cobra is needed for autoloading of sprx on boot like webman ,but when i did not have cobra enabled i could not even mount a game in MM.

You can mount game until your version of mM support your firmware (for now mM isn't updated only to run on DEX 4.80, rest of fw are supported). Cobra was disabled by default because... "Fan issue".. A lot of people used cobra and webman first time by installing Rebug, most of them start yelling that new rebug is crap because fan in ps3 sounds like a jet. They can't understand that $ony f*cked them up burning they ps3 just to keep it quiet (your cbeh1000 is running fan on 20% until it reach 74c (!!!) later isn't better). And webman just showed that console need to be cleaned to be quiet again. But nobody listened..

So after that Rebug team decided to disable cobra at start (iirc on 4.75.1). Side effect of that are cases like your, but nobody can't make everyone happy at one time. And tbh you should blame $ony for that your ps3 burned, because if webman don't handle fan speed then syscon doing this (like in ofw).

Read more about syscon fan control algorithm (0x33 is a 20%): http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Thermal#Readout_of_Thermal_and_Fan_data_using_Software

Edit: One of that fan issue cases (there was many many more..): http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_forums/threads/285523-System-or-CPU-fan-on-full-speed

my 360 can get somewhat nosy, but that's only due to having temp thresholds of 140 degrees C/60 F. it's not that bothersome especially if u use surround sound speakers. it's, of course, to prevent rrod. the ps3, however, can endure higher temps than the 360 but not much higher. that's y I always suggest the 140/60 degrees. 150-160 isn't bad, but 170+ seems a bit high. I mean the 360 will turn off if u enter 190s.

That is some very helpfull info, makes me feel a bit better about what happened. And yes my dad was complaining about his ps3 being way to loud and the last rebug firmware i had on it did not have the (cobra/webman) fan enabled. I am not blaming anyone but myself as i should have cleaned it out, but knowing that there was a syscon active from sony is a shame.. That ps3 would not have made it as long as it did without rebug. Thanks agian to all the devs of rebug, it really is the best CFW out there.

hello there

first of all, a BIG thank you for the CFW releases ;)
second one is about autologin in the psn account. i had configured a ps3 with this release, and turned on the cobra, webman and rebug mode. after this i had installed the psnpatch plugin.

After this I dont know if it is cfw problem or plugin problem :(

everything went smooth, but when psnpatch plugin kicks in, what's is supposed to happen? (block psn servers, right?).
My question is, why it connects to psn with autologin on, when you should do the combo to connect?
Is this some kind of mailfunction, or the autologin is attempted before the plugin load?

@Joonie @kokotonix @kozarovv

im refering you all, because i cant tell if its cfw or plugin related ;)

BIG thank you again

Thank you so much for your reply and your link. I should give it a try then. I really appreciate HABIB's work because he showed concern for the ps2 emu and the syncing problem. Now it's gone and cobra updated to 7.3. I think he's a late member of the REBUG team but anyway devs are all on the same team.

You must always check if the console compatible with cfw first.
If it is compatible you must downgrade first with a hardware flasher. Then you can install a CFW.

2 ways to do that.

Check http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models and compare your datecode.
or
You could use minVerChk PUP to find out the minimum fw version you could install
Download the pup file & put it on a USB key then do a system update with system storage from XMB. It will tell you the minimum installable firmware version.
If 3.55 or 3.56 maximum then you must get a flasher to downgrade yourself or give it to a professional to do (easier & cheaper).

If it's over 3.56 the console is definitely not compatible then you have 2 choices :
1. Get another console, latest compatible models are CECH 25xx until a certain datecode. The best is to check the compatibility list on psdevwiki.com, look at both the sku models & downgrading sections.
It's easier to get a console already on CFW (around 175 dollars in the US/a little bit more in Europe). Depending where you are located, there a good sellers recommended by decent forums.
2. Get a Cobra ODE but it's mostly to play backups (very few home-brew available & not updated). Also an uncertain future as to PSN connectivity. I know for certain it was compatible (unofficially at least) until OFW 4.76 as I used to have one, I cannot say for 4.80. Check the official Cobra Team ODE site.
