PS3 4.83 FERROX (w/ COBRA v7.55) CFW by Alexander

Following the 4.83 Official Firmware update for the PS3, not only did it close the PS3Xploit's for installing CFW on 4.82 and also the HAN Exploit, but it also means its time for a round of Custom Firmware updates for excising CFW user's. So if your first experience on CFW was on 4.82 on your on 4.82 CFW, then all you do is update to a 4.83 CFW of your choice and install the pup the same way you would an official update from a USB STORAGE DEVICE, but of course with the CFW PUP. This release of 4.83 FERROX COBRA CFW from developer @Alexander is a Cobra CFW, so it has all the features of a Standard CFW, plus contains the special Cobra payload which provides background running plugin support, PS3/PS2/PS1/PSP ISO Support some of the features this payload provides, (note standard CFW can install MAMBA and replicate many COBRA features) All details of this release can be found in the Translated notes found below from developer Alexander.​

  It is the first Custom Firmware of the 'most famous' ones. Do not trust too much of the unknown CFW that you find around the web, because they may have been built with the MFW tool, which certainly is not the best way to do a CFW.

Yes of course, if you already are on CEX CFW, you can upgrade to any other CEX CFW.


FYI
If QA is enabled on your console, you can also downgrade to any CFW no matter its version. I realise it isn't what you are asking about but if ever you needed to downgrade, for example if you don't like Ferrox 4.83 or wish to try Rebug 4.82 instead, it's good to know it can easily be done.
If ever QA was not already enabled when the console was jailbroken (3.55 downgrade I assume? if so toggling QA was a recommended step), you can use the QA Toggler by habib available in our resources section or on store.brewology.com. Check the dedicated threads & psdevwiki.com/ps3 for further info about QA.

That's cool. By all means, give Ferrox 4.83 a go... I am not implying it's a bad choice.
As you start getting familiar with using a CFW & your needs evolve, you can decide later whether you want to change to get more features or remain as is if Ferrox suits you. The options are there, the information freely available.. If you need help or have questions, there is always someone around in this forum...

 

One question guys, is it even a serious problem when I just want linking my profile with an newly made PSN? I just wanna have it linked and wanna search up what's in the store, I not wanna play online anyway. (I was never on PSN before) And what's the worst case that can happen when I should get banned? If you follow all the recommendations & use PSNPatch properly before connecting to PSN, the ban risk is extremely low for just browsing the PSN shop.
Yet, using a CFW to connect to PSN is a breach of TOS & although very low, there is still a risk.

What can happen if you get banned?

You could get your PSN account banned & if you bought games with it, you would lose them all unless you make prior backups. An alternative is to use a dummy PSN account to connect to PSN when you are not buying/downloading PSN games.

You could also get the console idps (the console"s id) banned which means the console could no longer use PSN as is. The only way to get PSN back if ever this happens is to spoof an idps coming from a dead console to fool PSN servers into believing you are using another console.

How to update to ferrox 4.83?
Format usb drive to FAT32, then make folder PS3 and inside UPDATE and paste CEXFERROXCOBRA483_100 .pup file?
Then put the usb in the right usb slot, then in ps3 go to Instal Package Files? Is this the right way to update the CFW?

yeah, there's that. the ps3 will copy the update to the hdd before installation to avoid problems. which error is popping up? you're on cex, correct? you need to be in order to install ferrox or it will error.

It's normal.
You should have a XMB link to install pkg files, that's a sign of the cfw. Install a homebrew backup manager with it & launch it after installation. On OFW, none of this could work, pkg files would not install even if you had the xmb link & homebrews would never launch.

As to the USB issue, you should use a MBR FAT32 USB stick. Avoid external hdds which offers special features like backups & stuff. Those usually use an "invisible partition" to store the software which cannot be removed without losing the features.
In a more general sense, the PS3 will not recognise such devices or any device using modern GPT partitioning.
You can use a Windows or Linux partitioning utility to find out what your usb device uses & possibly convert partitions to MBR if necessary.
