Following the 4.83 Official Firmware update for the PS3, not only did it close the PS3Xploit's for installing CFW on 4.82 and also the HAN Exploit, but it also means its time for a round of Custom Firmware updates for excising CFW user's. So if your first experience on CFW was on 4.82 on your on 4.82 CFW, then all you do is update to a 4.83 CFW of your choice and install the pup the same way you would an official update from a USB STORAGE DEVICE, but of course with the CFW PUP. This release of 4.83 FERROX COBRA CFW from developer @Alexander is a Cobra CFW, so it has all the features of a Standard CFW, plus contains the special Cobra payload which provides background running plugin support, PS3/PS2/PS1/PSP ISO Support some of the features this payload provides, (note standard CFW can install MAMBA and replicate many COBRA features) All details of this release can be found in the Translated notes found below from developer Alexander.

    Finally here is your CFW!

It is the first Custom Firmware of the 'most famous' ones. Do not trust too much of the unknown CFW that you find around the web, because they may have been built with the MFW tool, which certainly is not the best way to do a CFW.

The CFW FERROX now you know it very well and you also know its developer, our friend @ Alexander Already many have been waiting for it for days, but as you know we need time to test all the features of the Firmware. We have been able to test everything well, but it is always possible that something is missing. For this, if you find any problems do not hesitate to let us know!

    Let's get back to us..

Hello,
I am using REBUG 4.82. With that I did not use anyithing to go online to PSN (maybe I was unsecure). So can someone please explain what is the proper way to use PSN with FERROX CFW?
Thanks for the answer!
While there is no definite safe way to use PSN, you can mitigate your chances of a ban by first of all not abusing CFW advantages online, e.g. using mod menus or otherwise gaining an obvious unfair advantage during multiplayer. People will report you, and Sony will ban you. That's not to suggest that you would ever do that, but I'm just saying that's definitely a no-no as it's not only a risk to your account and/or console being banned but also a flagrant abuse of online services as it spoils the experience for legitimate players.

Anyway, with that out of the way; there are two main homebrews that offer 'protection' from a ban: SEN Enabler and PSNpatch. I say 'protection' as there's no guarantee that you won't get a ban even if you use one of them (don't use both at once - it will not offer any more protection and may indeed have quite the opposite effect). webMAN MOD also has the R2+Triangle button combo, which deletes CFW syscalls and hides the evidence, so to speak, that you're on a jailbroken system.

I'm not sure which is the best solution as I simply don't use PSN, but I believe one of the three aforementioned will give you the best chance of accessing PSN and its services while on CFW. I think the main thing to remember, though, is simply to not be seen to be blatantly using exploits online while in-game. Hope this helps.

The best all in one solution by far for a noobie is psnpatch imho.
SEN Enabler can do a similar job but is not very noob friendly.
No point even considering wMM which can only do part of the job.

Thanks for the (exhaustive) answers!
I did some google for "psn patch" and managed to install and use it, and I have question regarding:
Does it also take care of webMAN, so you do not need to unload it form memory? (I guess it does but it is better to ask.)
(Btw. I certainly do not intent to abuse CFW given oppprtunities while playing, as those are killing the true game experince itself IMHO.)

Disabling syscalls is one of the key features of PSNpatch - hiding the evidence that you're on CFW and instead making it look like you aren't running custom code - and it by extension disables homebrew when the syscalls are disabled. That will take care of webMAN and any other homebrew on the system. Of course, to be doubly sure you could always use the wM button combo (R2+Triangle) to disable syscalls on the system until reboot. Hope this helps. :)

Hi guys

Can anyone help me? because I've upgraded my ps3 slim from 4.82 Ferrox Cobra to this cfw and after it's done installing and rebooted, it now says that "The system software cannot be run correctly" so everytime I try to reinstall this cfw, it always shows an error code "The Data is Corrupted" (8002F2B5) even when I tried it on recovery mode. Is there anyway to fix this without updating it 4.83 OFW?
