PS3 4.84.3 STARBUGED (w/ COBRA 8.01) - New update in from Habib

Following the introduction of 4.84 STARBUGED CFW for the PS3, which also gave us the introduction of Cobra v8.0x from developer @habib, Has now followed up that cfw release with 4.84.3 STARBUGED (w/ Cobra 8.01) that contains some more candy for the scene. As the developer has provided new features once again with this update with the ability to Hardcode Kernel Plugins, which can be useful for things like MAMBA (a Cobra Alternative) as it can not be ran as a kernel plugin. Down below you will see the technical aspects of what this update has provided from Ps3 CFW Developer @habib.

  • 4.84.3 Starbuged + Cobra v8.01 CFW
Starbuged = Starbucks Release + Rebug Seasoning

    What's New in 4.84.3?
    1. Hardcoded kernel plugin
    2. Whole kernel 8mb is RWX including kernel alloc. you can use sc15 alloc, copy payload and execute like that as well but its better to use opcodes for kernel plugins
    3. Fixed minor bug in non cobra sc15

    what does it do?

    • it loads plugins from /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_nocobra.txt and boot_plugins_kernel_nocobra.txt
    • it fixes issue where nocobra and hdd format will make ps2 not work on bc/semi-bc

    what plugins can do?
    • load mamba and isolate cobra functions, modify it. e.g ps3mapi without cobra. i hate cobra being bloated with homebrew blockers etc

    for devs:
    • for mamba payload hdd0 is already mounted, prefer to load your code in main() instead of using the cellfsutil hook...regardless mamba works 90%
    • also dont forget to remove dev_hdd0/tmp/loadoptical flag for bc and semi-bc ps3

    NOTE:
cobra plugins will NOT work when cobra disabled

Thanks @aldostools, Mamba/PRX Loader v4.84.1 works!
Sadly it didn't fix an issue I'm having with a game. :( I was hopping for it to work where COBRA failed (it has happened before with a different game; that issue was eventually fixed in COBRA).

What game did it fail?
what manager did you use? (irisman, webman, multiman managunz etc.)
what format of the game? (FOLDER or ISO )
Internal or External storage media?

It's not the game itself that failed it's an extra feature of a game.
The game is Metal Gear Solid HD Collection [BLES01419]. It's the version that includes the "Metal Gear Solid digital graphic novel".
Game is in ISO format, mounted with webMAN-MOD 1.47.14, ISO file stored on net server. Same issue with ISO on external NTFS disk.

When the game is mounted, "METAL GEAR SOLID DIGITAL GRAPHIC NOVEL" appears in the Video column. When I try to launch it, I tries to do something and then returns to the XMB with an error:
"This Video cannot be played. (80029941)"

I vaguely remember this issue. it was part of COBRA issue If I recall. I can look into this later. FYI @habib @aldostools

80029941 is for the MGS digital graphic novel (unrelated to Mamba/PRX Loader, issue happens with unmodified Rebug 4.84.1 REX).
80010516 is for any game when launching a game when using Mamba/PRX Loader v4.84.1.

Do not use the mamba for now, and turn cobra back on. stick with the issue 80029941 since it only affects that movie disc for MGS HD COL. And also, try changing BD/DVD region on webMAN.

DVD region set to 2 didn't change anything.

alright, I'll take a look. thanks for testing, for the time being, try installing STARBUGED 4.84.3 instead of REX 4.84.1 since you're reporting issues on this thread. and Full Retail FW may work better for you unless you want to try one more thing which would be changing XMB Operation mode set to Retail from Debug after activating REBUG MODE via Rebug Toolbox.

Sorry for hijacking the STARBUGED thread.

I usually activate REBUG MODE and set XMB Operation to Retail, but this time I even reinstalled the CFW, prior to this all, to reset the settings. Setting XMB Operation to Retail didn't change anything.

4.84.3 STARBUGED, with BD region B and DVD region 2, also yields 80029941.

BD "B" and DVD "2" are my region, shouldn't they be the same as "Default"?

I'd offer to share the ISO if it would help, but it's 43 GiB. The PC it's on has a bittorent client, but I've never created a torrent file from a command line.

Correct, since your console is european model it should not really need any changes. It was just a test.

OK, back to Mamba/PRX Loader v4.84.

I tested it on 4.84.3 STARBUGED and it worked at first, I didn't get any 80010516. Games work.
When trying to sign in to PSN (after disabling CFW with the PSN Patch plugin's key combo) I get 20028E01.
An incompatibility between Mamba/PRX Loader v4.84 and PSN Patch 2017.02/B ?

That's known issue, this video never worked on cobra cfw. Not sure about non cobra.

Really? I think I got this working at some point. that was like 4 years ago probably and I can't remember what I did. I must've built the ISO with IRD or something..
