@Alain Brunet You didn't need to re-flash your PS3, and installing HFW 4.85 is the equivalent of re-installing OFW and removing Rebug and all CFW features. I'm on Rebug 4.84.2 myself and have no intention of updating any time soon, simply because I have no real need to.

You'll need to install a 4.85 CFW and then toggle on the QA flag, which will then allow you to install a lower CFW version like Rebug 4.84.2 (the current latest available). At the moment, 4.85 SPY Cobra is the only real stable 4.85 CFW that is available to us but this is of course subject to change.
There's also a link to a QA toggler tool on that page, but alternatively you can use habib's version which works great.

From there, you'll be able to update via storage media through System Update on the XMB to 4.84 CFW or below. Installing HFW will only remove the CFW, so once on CFW there's no need to re-flash or re-install HFW ever again. :)

I have a question with the upgrading between different version.

On my PS3 PHAT I had originally installed HFW 4.84.2 --> did the dump/flash writer and then installed cwf Rebug 4.84.1 REX Have been using it for a few month now. No real issues.

When HFW 4.85 came out I installed it and re-did the dump/flash process. The dump file all passed with the pyps3checker. I then tried to install CFW Rebug again but it fails each time. If I try to update the XMB via USB it reboots and says the file is corrupted. Even though the MD5 hash is correct. When I try to update from ps3 bootup the console tells me there is no firmware that is 4.85 or higher on the USB stick.

If I installed HFW 4.85 can I install a lower version of CFW? Or do I have to install a CFW that is 4.85?

I`ve also read something that I may have to use the QA Toggle.
if you had already installed rebug you dont need install hfw and exploit it again. just install another cfw.

Perfect I'll give it a try.

Hello!

I already read the posts here but as a newbie, i did confused a little bit.

What is the right process of updating, if we are already on a CFW 4.84?

Right now i have Rebug 4.84.
  • Can i just update with the Rebug 4.85 (when it comes out)?
  • Or make the whole process again for 4.85?
With both methods, will i lose all my games/saves, that is already installed on the internal hard drive?
  1. install OFW 4.85
  2. install HFW 4.85
  3. install CFW 4.85
Thanks in advance!

Just update CFW, you will not lose your games/saves.

I would recommend staying on 4.84 Rebug unless you really want to be on the latest firmware version. I'm running Rebug 4.84.2 REX and have no intention of updating to 4.85 CFW for the present time.

Only reason I jailbroke mine with 4.85 is because the ''new'' slim ps3 I bought already came with it my old one was on 4.82 and I never bothered to update which unfortunatly it just died without warning .
But I'm happy to say that everything works great on 4.85 , multiman , sman , fan utility and been loading and playing games ps1 ps2 ps3 with the available CFW SpyCobra and all works wonders.
I even downgraded using Q A toggle and installed Rebug but got back to 4.85 SpyCobra which is once again , great.

I forgot to mention Mr.Mario @ youtube for the awesome tutorials.
I knew how to jailbreak back in 4.82 but things have changed since so many thanks Mr.Mario!
If you're new to jailbreak just look out for his videos and follow everything he says!

I can confirm that it works on 4.85.
Used habib's , installed rebug 4.84.2 then went back to SpyCobra on 4.85.
If QA toggler doesn't work on spycobra just switch to Overflow and then QA toggle from there but it should work on spycobra just haven't tested it on it but again I'm happy with Spycobra no reason to change.

It will work on Spy Cobra since it has LVL1 and LVL2 patches needed for the QA toggle to work, as do virtually all CFW (I've not come across a modern CFW without peek and poke patches).

Do you have any experience playing original ps2 games with spy cobra 4.85? Yesterday I tried to play an original ps2 disc on my PS3 compatible 60GB PS3, but when I selected the disc in xmb, the screen became black, and the controller disconnected(I know this is normal after launching a ps2 game) and I couldn't reconnect, Just black screen.
Could some of you try launching a ps2 game on a ps2 compatible model, just to see if it is working?

Can anyone get CCAPI 2.80 to load on 4.85? It worked perfectly on Rebug 4.84...doesn't want to load on 4.85.

If anyone knows how please let me know. I have all these tools I can't use as I cannot install ccapi.

Thank you.
