4.87 cobra update to 4.88.2 possible brick?

Just as the title says, Wanted to get on 4.88.2 finally. So grabbed newest evilnat version to upgrade from existing 4.87 cobra install on my CECHA01 model. USB was detected though .pup update was not. Backtracked by watching the newer install guide by Mr.Mario and went for the ps3xploit.
So ended up repatching the flash and power cycled following that. But console only starts its boot cycle with no video out and about 3 or so seconds stable green light to then powerdown shortly after.
How bad is my mistake and is this likely something that can be recovered in the slightest? Or is the only option available by getting and E3 flasher?

If you were already on CFW, there was no need to reflash your nand. You could have just simply updated to the latest CFW and you would have been good to go.

Where did you put the pup file?

By the sound of it, you may have bricked your console. But you don't give enough details as to exactly what you did install and/or patch & in what order so it's impossible to tell what went wrong or if it is recoverable without hardware flasher.

Did you patch the Flash memory directly over a CFW with the PS3 Toolset?
To do that, you would have had to turn strict mode off & ignore all warnings! That's something nobody should ever do unless they know exactly what they are doing like devs or advanced users.

Or did you install OFW 4.88 over the 4.87 CFW first & then used the PS3 Toolset to patch the Flash memory?

Have you tried booting into recovery mode (using the appropriate power button sequence) to reinstall the system software?

If you cannot boot into xmb or into recovery mode, only a hardware flasher can revive the console.

In following instructions over discord, I was told to just follow from the steps in this video at the 25min onward

So in doing so I was able to get through it all up to rebooting the console. Following that reboot is where the issues started. Grabbed the .pup directly from brewology and had in USB under /PS3/UPDATE

From the looks of it after now rewatching the tutorial again. Yes that seems to be the case

Well, like I told you, if you can still boot into recovery mode, you can reinstall the system software, if not, only a Teensy hardware flasher can recover the system.

I got into recovery mode! :oie mgkkvf2kykyi:

Should I do restore file system or attempt the system update with the .pup I have?
Install Evilnat's 4.88.2 CFW from USB.
Use a MBR FAT32 partition, if possible a USB stick rather than a hdd & no USB hub.
Make sure the path is all in upper case.
