an old software developer's saying goes something like this...

"On time, cheaper, fewer Bugs...pick any 2!"

If you want it at no cost and low risk of brick, it will take time. Rushed CFW pups have bricked too many consoles already.

Furthermore...devs have families, jobs, dogs to walk, cars to fix, clothes to wash...life gets in the way sometimes.

Plus many homebrews do not need update. Multiman says the wrong version number? Who cares?
 
oh please ferrox, et al, usually push updates and within 48 hours we have 3-4 cfw options. this time, crickets. devs have lost interest as user base has dropped. it's not an insult, just a fact. sony's persistent updates polls dev reaction, and now we're finally seeing development slow WAY DOWN. i'm fine with 4.82....no need to update. i'm just stating an observation i made. this is when the oem usually drops the hammer....when there's a finite amount of people who care to respond.

here is 4.85 hfw release by joonie on Aug 28, 2019. On Nov 7, ferrox is released here by alexander. more than two months later!...at bottom of first page for ferrox he says he is busy and future releases also would take weeks.

according to habib, everybody needs to update! all pre-4.87 releases risk ban if you spoof to current version (because sony can still see real version number). a new spoof is needed to mask it properly now...that spoof doesnt exist yet...so only way to be safe is to update to 4.87 OR never play online again.

according to habib, everybody needs to update! all pre-4.87 releases risk ban if you spoof to current version (because sony can still see real version number). a new spoof is needed to mask it properly now...that spoof doesnt exist yet...so only way to be safe is to update to 4.87 OR never play online again.

lol one time the one specific cfw delayed slightly....boy, you sure showed me my point is, there's always a major cfw release quickly after ofw drops...and now we see nothing

....and no, i don't play online because my console was banned like 6 years ago. any more witty quips, pal?

i guess i'm just confused...if you are happily on 4.82 and dont play online...why are you complaining about no new cfws and a lack of updates to show the new number IF you will never use them?

i'm not trying to bait you here but...it is off-topic to talk about not needing a new cfw in a thread about new cfws. you should make your own thread or find an old one and post there.

i wasn't complaining. i only made an observation that updated cfws aren't showing up, and this would be a good time to patch the exploit since the devs don't seem to be exactly populous. that would make it much more effective if they patched it now. it's not off topic. it's very much related to the (lack of an) update, and sony's potential for a timed attack on the homebrew community.

New to modding PS3 so I have some questions
1) My PS3 I just picked a week ago was on factory firmware 4.87 an older fat unit model ends in like L01 can I install any CFW?

2) I installed HEN for 4.87 and retroarch works fine but standalone emulators for Nes, Snes or Sega don't work I get an error code. Is this because it requires CFW? Or Should it work with HEN

3) The ony thing I did to this console was in stall HEN, saw a mention of HAN do it need this?

4)I loaded games from usb and some play fine but others load disc from multiman then just retrun to the main screen the game never starts. Some of the 6 is tested work but not assassins creed and a couple Call of duty games don't work and cause a black screen

Any help for a complete PS3 noob. I have spent hours and made some progress but i think I'm missing steps. Nintendo is way esier to mod

Installation:

  - Copy the "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file to the UPDATE folder you just created.

  - Plug the USB storage device to your PS3 then install via [Settings] -> [System Update] -> [Update via Storage Media]

Installing dual-boot firmware requires a jailbroken console with CFW already installed, however dual-boot firmware is not a traditional custom firmware. Dual-boot firmware looks and acts exactly like a stock OFW, with the only difference being it has been pre-patched to allow for a full CFW installation when needed, so you don't have to go through the entire jailbreaking process from start to finish. Dual-boot firmware does not allow for ANY homebrew or modifications to be run, so what's the point of it you may ask? The point being is this would allow a jailbroken PS3 owner to occasionally get back online, in the safest state possible, without fully reverting the console back to a stock official firmware.
 
hmm just bought second ps3 slim for 45$, after read this, i'm should let it in 4.86hfw-cfw first and wait flash manager coming :apathy:

No.You cannot use custom firmware. black screens can be caused by a lot of things... there is a guide here about how to avoid them... Just tag A moderator they can link you to the guide/Help you troubleshoot your console @NotOnlyEyes @Coro

Just stumbled into the jailbreaking guides and currently have a 4.87 ps3
After reading through I guess I'm out of luck to try to jailbreak until a (if) new CFW is released?

actually if he has a fat model, he can use cfw but only after the bgtoolset is updated.

the fat models have a letter right after "CECH-"

for examle i have a CECH-G01. so it is called G model.

slims and super slims have 4 numbers then a letter. i have a CECH-2501A. this is called 25xx model. some of these can have cfw but not all of them can. no superslims can have cfw currently.

4.87 cfw was released by Evilnat. you are now waiting on bgtoolset to be updated. then you can use it to jailbreak.
