PS3 4.88 Update is Live! - Official HFW & HEN Released

Okay but how do I install this HEN 3.0.3 ? Like I said I don´t know anything about this.
Visit http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer in the PS3 web browser. It works best when set as the browsers homepage and with a wired connection, not wifi. It might fail a few times, just close and open the browser in between each attempt.

I activated the option "save update data to system storage",
then press X to start update and 71% error (8002F997) as before.
I unplugged the USB but I can't select the "update via system storage" option.
I don't know if it doesn't save the data or what should I do now?

Reformat USB to FAT32 (do the full format not the quick format)
Create folders on USB drive
- \PS3\UPDATE
Copy your PS3UPDAT.PUP in to that folder
>>>Do not take out USB stick from your computer yet
Wait 2 minutes
>>>now gracefully eject the USB stick from computer

Try to install into PS3

*It sounds like you got a bad USB drive or you ejected drive before it could copy the files over completely

I followed those steps and I get the usual error. (8002F997)
try to do those steps and enter "recovery", same error (8002F2C5)
I tried to do those steps and enter from "system update debug" (active hen) and I got the same error (8002F997)
the only difference that entering from "debug" the installation reached 71%, before it reached 66%. :(and the usb is new.. :(

Thank you. But I noticed that some files are missing, like, I can´t download games and other stuff, do I need to reinstall the other files again? And if I don´t is that going to be a problem?

which files are missing? what other files did you install on 4.87?

playstation store does not download, or it does not run at all?

But that's it, online using HEN is more risky. And as I said, I see many people complaining about console crashes because of HEN activation, something that doesn't happen with those who use HAN.

HEN can use homebrew that can block your PS3 from sending information to Sony. HAN can not block the spying.

HAN is just as easy to detect as HEN. Neither of them have to be "enabled" to be detected. Some people complain about HEN creating folders. Those folders can be deleted. Sony is probably looking for the DEX files that both hacks use rather than folders.

As for the crashes, HEN is usually not the problem. If HEN will not enable at all, usually an old pirate store was installed. If HEN crashes/freezes at start, usually an incompatable plugin has been installed (or maybe improper settings used with a compatable plug-in). sometimes a dying hard drive can cause enabling to fail.

I do not know where the idea that HAN is safer come from. I do know that the people who made HAN have recommended using HEN instead. Even if you do not need homebrew, fan control and easy access to the file system are well worth the upgrade.

I think it comes from the fact that HAN offers less surfaces overall to detect hacking for the servers (PSN or Games) you connect to.
There are no custom syscalls, no kernel modifications either, we know it is one way to get flagged by game servers. And even if there are homebrews to help with that, you only need to forget to disable custom syscalls just one time before online gaming to risk exposing yourself to a ban. Never mind the number of people who don't know how to protect themselves or even that they need to if they game online with a hacked console.

Of course strictly speaking, as the situation stands, all ps3 hacks like HEN, HAN, CFW are easily detectable one way or another if s#ny chooses to implement appropriate code to take care of it.
If you take HAN for instance, a quick check in userland memory can tell whether it's enabled & a file system check can tell whether there are any customised files on the hdd or in Flash memory, a quick signature check of game files can tell whether the games are resigned.. Hell, even a simple Internet history check could lead to detection..
If there is a will, there is a way, that kind of thing..

Somehow I don't think s#ny or game servers ever really bothered adapting their code to detect HAN or HEN in particular. I have a feeling that it's still the old stuff targeting CFW that remains in play today.

I don't play online at all, I just have the CFW so I can have fan control with webMAN. Do I still expose myself to a ban by buying games on the PSN?

There will always be a low risk, no matter how you go about it. The best you can do is keep that risk to an acceptable minimum.
Using PSN with a customised firmware is specifically a breach of the Terms & Conditions, but it appears that game servers are more often than not at the root of most bans & that s#ny doesn't particularly care or seek out as many CFW consoles as they can although they will definitely ban you if you get flagged.

The only alternative is to use a dual boot system, with ofw for online gaming + shopping & cfw for everything else.

yes. perhaps most HAN users only wish to play online. i assume they want to back up files and use Movian...i would not care about things i would not use either.

half of my fun comes from "tinkering" anyway. i would have an interest in a new hack just to see what it does. i suppose i can not expect others to be so eager to try new things when they something already works for them.
