PS3 4.89 Update is Live! - Discussions / Details about the firmware update

I recommend not installing it yet even though it was Same for me but I've changed my HDD now to a bigger one and am waiting for a new hfw to come out. Best to wait for them to iron all the issues out and install it again. Best to be safe than sorry.
Im doing a clean install once it's out
You're right. It's better be safe than sorry.
Anyway, I don't use that Ps3 nowadays and still have around my old and trusty E3 Flasher, so that's not a problem on my end.

must admit it was good dat people tested HFW 4.89 release and even though it had errors and may lead to data loss, I doubt it's irreparable. I commend you! :encouragement:

I would like some help regarding 4.89 OFW update.Yestarday I mistakenly updated my CFW 4.88 evil nat with sony's 4.89 OFW .Does this mean that I have lost my CFW altogether ,can I still update via usb once official CFW 4.89 update is released or do I have to jailbreak again from the start or reformat hard drive to remove OFW and re-install CFW 4.89 .I am currently using a Pal cechc003 60 gb fat model which is backwards compatible unfortunately since yesterday when i put in original ps2 discs the system turns off and hard resets (blinks yellow then turns off and keeps blinking red until i turn on again regarding ps3 origianal and ps1 discs they run normally without issues.I bought this ps3 for backwards compatibilty for ps2 discs and this is a huge hindrance your help and insight will be greatly appreciated as i am very green and new regarding cfw installation if i could bypass the whole cfw installation from scratch that would be ideal

All you can do is wait man unless you have a hardware flasher. You will have to start the process over from scratch. Also use the tools that come with the CFW. I can block all online updates and bypass this. If you have a modified console never update.

in case of PUAD Gui not visible on screen, there was a fix posted by (just guessing) I think aldostools and it was intended for laptops. I will upload it to resource section ;)

anyways, beware of using PUAD Gui, cause it breaks file permissions on some devflash parts
there is a 2.0 in this post by Evilnat that fixes. dont know if it is beta or not.

Just successfully updated my own CECH-4208C on 4.88 OFW to self-made 4.89.2 HFW using USB from Settings menu. I'm not a part of PS3Xploit Team but used their disclaimer -- don't blame me for that. Link: [REMOVED]

let's just wait for the devs release. you dont want anybody blaming you for bricks (or ps3xploit team if it has their name on it).

@Coro it works without any issues. Tested on my own console. I'm known PSP/PSV dev so I know how things works. I used license.xml from 4.88.1 with new date (today) as a part of my 4.89.2.
there is one being tested in a dev thread. if it is bad, i will post yours there for testing.

You say you know what you are doing and I am obviously taking your word for it.
But as it's a common mistake to make and others might be interested to know about HFW building tips anyway, I may as well add this here, whether it applies to you or not. ;-)

FYI

If one replaces the entire silk_webkit tar file with a 4.82 or lower tar file and repacks a pup with it and a modded header etc.. in theory one also needs to confirm that the other sprx files included in the tar file haven't been updated since 4.82 (or lower) otherwise the HFW cannot be considered 100% functional even if it appears to be at first glance.

Unmodded header from 4.82 works for me)

Files are not same 4.82 vs 4.89:
  • autodownload_plugin.sprx
  • avc_plugin.sprx
  • gameupdate_plugin.sprx
  • nas_plugin.sprx
  • newstore_plugin.sprx
  • silk_webkit.sprx

Those files

  • autodownload_plugin.sprx
  • avc_plugin.sprx
  • gameupdate_plugin.sprx
  • nas_plugin.sprx
  • newstore_plugin.sprx
can be added back in the HEN installer.

Hey Bro. I was faster and managed to copy your download link. Your HFW 4.89 worked perfectly. At first I didn't find any bugs in normal use.

Really? I seem to recall that Joonie was modifying a header when he made the first pups.
Anyway if you are correct, that's good to know.

Sure, with the HEN installation, you can update the sprx files with the PKG but it's important for users to know that until those updated files are deployed, some problems may or may not arise.

There are some unofficial releases out there + HEN, @littlebalup already made one and it's being tested in a dev thread.

I recommend you wait the Official Release, as testing will be extensive to ensure everything is working as it should

Hey ! Man could you give me link in DM i would like to test on -2008 model.
I don't want to summon angry mods here, so you can google search for the link at your own risks. But I know about ~20 successful installions atm.

Thanks for confirmation! I was thinking to do an exclusive release here, but due the mod's action you will have to search.

Yeah. 4.84.1 was made with untouched files too IIRC.

It's nothing personal you know, nobody is going to get angry about you posting your work, but we have known too many issues with pup files over the years as you most likely well know.
Unless testing has already been thorough elsewhere, what we would prefer devs to do at this point is to post their test builds in the private beta testing sub forum, this way there's no ambiguity, it's a test build and not a release and it can be promoted to release status in a new thread once successfully tested.

hope the act.dat creation feature passes testing.it would be nice to know that no matter what sony do,i can still get another console
and carry on where i left off should anything happen to my current one.i don't ever sign in to psn other than to activate.
nice to see so many here that i've not seen in a while.hope you are all well.

Apollo Save Tool already creates fake accounts, but the act.dat file is deleted when ps3 boots. currently Apollo uses a WebMAN Mod script to restore the file. the new HEN feature will restore the file when HEN starts so that WebMAN Mod is not needed.
