PS3 4.92 Evilnat Custom Firmware (w/ Cobra v8.5) Released - CEX,PEX,D-PEX,DEX builds

UPDATE xai_plugin: New Overclocking Tools (change on the fly) / New ps2netemu improvements added.

.Following the 4.92 firmware update developer's from around the community have been updating various projects. This time around PS3 CFW developer @Evilnat drops by the forum and leave's us with a suite of ps3 custom firmware's that support 4.92 firmware. 4 Flavor's (CEX, PEX, D-PEX & DEX) are available for 4.92 Evilnat CFW, depending on your console/taste, all builds are equipped with the Cobra v8.5 payload to provide expanded feature set over Standard CFW's.

If you are already on PS3 CFW, updating is a breeze, you just need to install the new CFW PUP file via the official USB Method and you will be on Evilnat's latest release. If you have updated to 4.92 OFW you will have to wait, as you will have re-exploit your ps3 console to allow for a Custom Firmware installation once again. The good news is that developer @bguerville should be rolling out a new update soon for the PS3 Toolset that support 4.92 firmware. The offline tool CFW Flash Writer may take longer for the community to update it, but we hope to see an update for that tool soon as well.

.Updated xai_plugin to version 1.23 and EMUs MOD to version 1.10

    xai_plugin Updater [v1.23]
    ps2_netemu.self (MOD)
    • Updated ps2_netemu.self, implemented manual/auto/SYSCON temps (By kozarovv and mrjaredbeta)
    • Fixed FPS display to not show random values for the first 1-2 seconds after enabling the menu
    • Added Fan Control (Manual and Automatic)
    • Added current Fan Settings display (Select button in the main menu, also when changing the current fan mode)

WARNING! New fan related functions require a single patch in LV1. The emulator is not compatible with firmware that lacks that patch. (https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Talk:...em_Manager_to_allow_PS2_emulators_Fan_Control)

To set manual mode fan speed, in the main menu press SQUARE and:
    • Left D-pad: -1%
    • Right D-pad: +1%
    • L1: -5%
    • R1: +5%
In manual mode, fan speed is limited to a 21% - 80% range. Trying to go higher does nothing, trying to go lower re-enables Syscon Mode automatic fan control. WARNING! Keeping your fan speed in the range of 21% - 30% for a longer time can be harmful to the PS3! Remember that when the FAN is set to manual speed, it will not ramp up if the PS3 is overheating! Use the 21% - 30% range only if you are 100% sure that your PS3 is not having overheating issues.

To set a new automatic fan speed mode, in the main menu press Square + Start

This mode has 4 different settings available (toggle them through the next START + SQUARE presses). Modes are 60°C/65°C/70°C/75°C. This is the maximum temperature that the new auto mode will try to maintain by changing the current fan speed. At first, the fan speed can be a little high, but give it 2-3 minutes and it will find the lowest fan speed that ensures the selected temperature is maintained. When the mode is 75°C, the next press of START + SQUARE will revert to syscon mode.

    Credits
    • Thanks to @kozarovv and @mrjaredbeta for his great research about PS2 EMUs
    • Big thanks to kamilb880 for testing this so many times
    • Evilnat and @aldostools for original cobra fan control algorithm, on which auto mode implementation heavily relies on
    EDIT:
The new emulator FAN Control will work on CFW 4.92.2 due to a patch in LV1 which does not exist in previous versions.
The patch can be enabled in 4.92 by patching LV1 with 0x60000000 at address 0x16914C (Thanks to kozarovv and @mrjaredbeta)

I downloaded this and tried to update about 20 minutes ago and the installation stopped at 45%. I now seem to be in an update loop which i cant get out of. I have tried to go into safe mode but it does not work and simply takes me back to the installation screen which inevitably fails at 45% over and over. Please tell me there is a way to get out of this? I have been using CFW for years and never encountered this before. Even trying a new HDD, the system says it can't detect the CFW on USB so i'm at a loss.

Hi Guys Hi Evilnat :)

Tested the 4.92 CEX and OC CFW on a PS3 FAT CECH-C

Had with both CFWs problems with OBLIVION, when game started the whole console freeze.

After that it keep saying to check and repair the system storage.

Even when shutting down the console it keep saying to check and repair system storage.

I'm back to 4.91 OC Final Edition and all is working like a charm again.

Greetings

Yes, same here... but you can go back all the time. That's why, never touch a running system xD God thanks I'm playing OBLIVION for now, otherwise i would not have notice it. But i really installed it again and again to see if it's a CFW problem, switched between 4.91 and 4.92, because with 4.91 Final all was working fine. But every time i installed 4.92 and started OBLIVION my PS3 freeze! I just had a shock, when my console had this check and repair system storage loop message, i thought it's some kinda soft brick Every time i started the PS3 i had to repair my system storage, but nothing helped, message keep displayed. So back to 4.91 Final and all good. ✌️

I can play Oblivion without issues only with webMAN MOD in its latest version, can you tell me what do you have installed? Plugins, mods, etc... and what are you using to load the game

Hi bro. It's Oblivion Europe Multi Language EnFrDeEsIt, no mods, no cheats, no plugins. I always use WebMan Mod to load my games, latest WebMan Mod 1.47.47n

Dynamic Fan control was activated too.

Witch Oblivion did you test? There are different Editions. Only English, Multi language, 5th Anniversary, Game of the Year Edition and Japan Edition.

I'll try to get an other version of Oblivion than i can test it again.

I just got this issues with Oblivion with this Firmware, all other games running great.

But i think something is making problems with Oblivion, or WebMan Mod or something else.

I will reinstall WebMan Mod completely and i will give it a try again without WebMan Mod and I'll let you guys know.

But why the heel the ps3 had this bug after freeze keep saying to check and repair system storage? My SSD is totally fine

Never had this bug in my whole life

It was really annoying...

Ok, here is what i did for now

I reinstalled WebMan Mod 1.47.47n on 4.91 Final edition first.

After restart i installed 4.92 CEX OC over the recovery mode.

Than i started Oblivion over Multiman, Game started without freezing.

After that i installed WebMan Mod again to see if i can provoke the freezing again, but why ever, it worked without problems for now.

So it seems to be a bug with WebMan Mod and Oblivion or what ever.

I got soon an other version of Oblivion, maybe my game is buggy...

But the question still is, why the freeze and why after restarting the ps3, even after a hard reset the ps3 had this check and repair system storage loop message?

Never happened to me...

I'll keep testing and reporting.

I also noticed something and I am currently playing Metal Gear Rising on the PS3 and have noticed that my Decha00a always has sound problems, but only with Cutscenes. In the game the sound runs, is also so via CD.

The sound with previous CFW worked fine? I'm still testing my stuff too, not sure if I'm gonna stay with 4.92 for now... I'm still testing testing testing

I got now OBLIVION Game of the Year Edition and all is working till now.

Gonna test the next days to see if it staying stable.

This kinda tests needs time, all other games running without problems.

Wish you the best.

Yes, I had the impression that it was possible 4.91.2 D-Pex, in the Rebug 4.84 D-Rex it worked to.

Nevertheless, I say thank you @Evilnat for your great work and also the community. :)

Yes, i still use Rebug 4.86 Lite to test stuff, still a very good CFW. In your case, i would downgrade it again and check the Sounds again. Only so you can be sure.

Yeah, believe me, we all very thankful :)

Evilnat is the only one still doing great CFWs.

A lot stopped, but Evilnat still here for us.

But it's also very important to help developers with reporting bugs and stuff like that, it helps a lot to create a stable CFW.

Best regards

I can also agree to the Sound bugs.

Still testing stuff with Oblivion on 4.92 and 4.91 Final

On 4.92 with Oblivion when i do Health Magic, every second time the sound effects not working.

Tested on Standart Oblivion and Game of the year edition.

Switched back to 4.91 Final and the sound effects always working, every single time i do health magic.

I noticed also same with Motor Storm on 4.92, when Boosting the Boost sounds kinda late, let's say not direct like with 4.91 Final Edition.

But for now enough testing, I'm off for now and i need a rest.

I just made a test and oblivion is working here. (Well PS3 Pro is installed) i'll test it on vanilla CFW but should be the same.

Edit: Forget it, for some reason i confused it with Elveon :P
I don't have Oblivion.

Can you tell me what version of the CFW do you have and what XMB and KERNEL mode?

Hi @Evilnat, I have everything on DEX at the moment. I tried it on CEX and experienced sound errors, but only with Metal Gear Rising and i have not Oblivion. I tried it with and without overclocking—the results were the same. I have a CECHA00 and haven't noticed excessive white. However, if I reset my DECHA00A to factory settings, the issue returns as soon as I set it up and download everything. I'm currently using the latest Webman MOD version, I believe it's 1.48.
