4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Thank you for the great work. I've been using this for 2 days without issue :cheerful:
Though wondering if I need to replace the thermal paste, running CEX OC version and it's getting quite hot after each season. It's a 13y/o machine (didn't see much use for a few years but still)

Hey guys is webman needed for PS2 games?

webMAN MOD can handle PS2 games and it is highly recommended due it can auto-install the PS2 config.

But there are other alternative methods available to launch games:
- PSN PS2 PS2 Classics games (official packages)
- PS2 ISO converted to PS2 Classics packages
- PS2 Discs (backup/original) on B/C models
- PS2 ISO mounted from other backup managers like multiMAN, IRISMAN, ManaGunZ, sMAN, webMAN

That would be weird since Cobra is explicitly required for good software based PS2 emulation on PS3.

But you can check under Custom Firmware Tools -> Cobra if it's active

some issues with irisman 4.90 causing forced system overheat warning and hard lock-up
GPU : 650 MHz - VRAM : 750MHz
CFW : EvilNat 4.90.x PEX CEX OC
Other Issues to be check soon(tm)*
idle temp is CPU : 54C - RSX: 32C
IRISMAN 4.90 halts the CPU AND RSX WITH OverHeat Warning (CPU : 128C -- RSX : 128C)

UPDATE : PS3 IS DEAD (I'm Seeking a Replacement...)

@LuanTeles I successfully ported the OFW 4.84 DEX module explore_plugin.sprx to work with current XMB layout and version for 4.90

Now some options from DEX like [★ Check] and [★ Owner Information] are available

Time to test if it is compatible with CFW, Cobra and homebrew

Thats great :love heart:, in aspect of XMB layout in the past i've tried along with @sandungas to change the side menu color along with the green progress bar but we didn't came to any success as side menu color is somehow done by sprx and the progress bar have some green overlay created by sprx even if the image have been recolored is there any hope so we can mod them ?

also why you don't make thread where it show changelog of evilant cfw compared to rebug 4.84 rex so people know what things are ported and other that still

Niceeee, so now all features has been ported

What's mean CEX/DEX/PEX/D-PEX? noBD, noBT?
CEX - Intended for use on retail consoles. Can do most things except homebrew development / debugging / target manager API. Equivalent to Rebug Lite.
DEX - Intended for use on debug consoles, either official (DECH) or retail units converted to debug units. Will not install on unmodified retail units. Has all debugging features. Plays commercial games but lacks certain retail features (e.g., DLNA support). Has a more powerful debug settings menu. PSN connectivity is technically supported but will probably get you banned within minutes.
PEX - Intended for use on retail consoles. Combines CEX and DEX and allows you to switch between them without having to reinstall the firmware. Behaves almost identical to CEX when in CEX mode and almost identical to DEX when in DEX mode.
D-PEX - Identical to PEX but intended for use on debug consoles (official or converted).

noBD - Intended for use on consoles where the Blu-Ray drive is faulty (specifically the logic board, if the laser is broken it's not considered faulty for this purpose). Generally a PS3 with a broken Blu-Ray drive will not launch any games, not even digital ones (.pkg). This variant bypasses this issue.
noBT - Same thing but for use on consoles with broken Bluetooth.
noBD+noBT - For consoles with both Blu-Ray drive and Bluetooth broken.

Unfortunately it is not possible to install the noBD/noBT variants with flash writer at this point - attempting to flash HFW 4.90.1 (which is a requirement for flash writer) on a console with a broken Blu-Ray drive / Bluetooth will brick the console. You will be able to flash these if and when bgtoolset returns, because it patches OFW directly, without having to go through HFW. For the time being those variants are can only be used to update units already on CFW.
* For the sake of completeness - You can technically install the noBD/noBT variants on non-broken consoles (and flash writer will work in that case) but there's no real reason to do so - iirc those variants break backwards-compatibility, maybe some other stuff. If your Blu-Ray and Bluetooth are working then stick with the regular variant.

I can take a look at both ;)

What's mean CEX/DEX/PEX/D-PEX? noBD, noBT?
  • CFW PEX: (Ported DEX modules and kernel from OFW DEX 4.84, CEX Kernel as default)
  • CFW D-PEX: (DEX Ported DEX modules and kernel from OFW DEX 4.84, DEX Kernel as default)
  • CFW CEX: (Default CFW CEX without DEX modules and DEX Kernel)
  • CFW DEX: (Default CFW DEX with some DEX modules and DEX Kernel)

I successfully ported the OFW 4.84 DEX module checker_plugin.sprx to work with current XMB layout and version for 4.90

Now it works together with explore_plugin.sprx, both modules are working as expected on CFW 4.90

I sometimes wonder if newer DEX kernels exist internally at Sony. Guess we'll never know (unless one leaks).
