4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

You can install directly to Evilnat 4.90 PEX.

Alternatively you can install the overclocked version of the same CFW. However there is not much information about how OC could affect your system in the long term.

The other installers are for users with Bluray drive and/or Bluetooth broken.

Thank you for your answer!!! I will do it now. Have a good day,Sir!

Be aware: if you have a console with either a weak PSU, several high current draw USB peripherals connected (USB HDDs, chargers) and/or capacitor problems, OC version will make your console crash with a red blinking light while playing some ps2 and ps3 games, since it puts extra strain on the PSU by increasing the power draw of the overclocked component, and the PSU shuts down to prevent damage. My slim console constantly crashed unless playing simple 2D games or emulating older consoles with OC installed, ever since I installed the non-OC firmware these crashes are gone. @Evilnat you might wanna put a warning in the OP to reflect this, since these consoles are not getting any newer and the extra strain on the PSU might cause power problems.
Adding to this, SYSCON error log doesn't show entries for when the console shut down, all it shows is a bunch of 1002 and 2022 errors dating back to mid 2009, so yeah...

It looks that ScummVM 2.7.1 causes CFW fault. Can somebody confirm that? I tested it on PEX
Seems so. Furthermore after it crashed and restarted it wouldn't boot any game (neither homebrew nor retail) and I had to reinstall the firmware (no need to jailbreak again, just reinstall CFW from XMB).
I opened a ticket here -
#14641 (ScummVM 2.7.1 PS3 crashes the entire OS) – ScummVM :: Bugs
I would appreciate it if you could post a comment confirming that it also happened to you.

EDIT: Use 2.7.0 until that's fixed. It works fine.

When you go to recovery screen, cobra is disabled, Just re-enable it.

That's why your plugins doesn't load, to load them without cobra you need boot_plugins_nocobra.txt

Edit your report to Scumm most of them are not related to the homebrew, just report that it causes a KP and thats all

Thanks for the information!
But that still doesn't explain why it wouldn't even boot retail games.

Either way I hope the ScummVM team fixes this ASAP.

See my edited message, most of your reports are not related to Scumm, just the KP thing

Will this work on the CECHJ03 Model?

PS3 Custom Firmwares can be installed on *ALL* phat models (including CECHJ03) and all PS3 slims CECH-20xx or CECH-21xx.
Some CECH-25xx models also support CFW. But these 25xx models require a confirmation using minchkver PUP or BGToolset.

PS3HEN can be installed on *ALL* PS3 models (phat, slims, superslims).
Superslims, slims CECH-30xx and 25xx with factory firmware version 3.60 or higher use metldr2. They only support HEN.

I need a bit of help, i have been told to plug my usb drive into the second usb port at the front however that usb port doesnt work, it doesnt work with charging the controllers aswell, i can only plug it into the first usb in but it wont detect but can charge my controllers, should i use hen instead? will it offer me the same functionallity of installing PKGs, online multiplayer etc?

If I recall correctly you don't need USB to patch your console using http://ps3toolset.com

All the patch process is done from Internet. Once the flash memory is patched, you can put the PS3UPDAT.PUP in /PS3/UPDATE of an USB device connected to any USB port or put the PS3UPDAT.PUP in /PS3_UPDATE of a burned CD or DVD

If you're using USB, remove any PS3 game from the Bluray disc drive.

If you decide to install HEN, you will have almost the same features of CFW except that you will have to enable it every time you start your console. LV1 access is unavailable on HEN, preventing some advanced features like downgrade to previous versions, switch to DEX mode, etc.

It'll still work. If you use the left USB port just use usb0001 insteasd of usb0000.

I install the multiman but it always automatically go to the very left side (the user icon), i can't select any function icon from the middle or right side, and i install the webman mod, but when i loading, it stuck on black screen, any one help me please?

Yesterday I have tested both
CFW Evilnat 4.90 Cobra 8.4 [DEX] [OC]
CFW Evilnat 4.90 Cobra 8.4 [DEX]

on: CECH-2501B (it's not listed on yours tested list, CFW works fine)

Hey there - not been on for ages....thought id check to see if there are any updates and while im on 4.90 how do i check the version number? Thanks to anyone that takes a punt.

fan going crazy after Installing install webman
webMAN MOD takes over the fan control when installed. You can switch it back to the OFW behavior by going into webMAN MOD's setup (using the browser) and setting the fan control to SYSCON, although that's not recommended since webMAN MOD does a better job if properly configured.
A good configuration is to set the fan control to automatic with the target temperature set to 68°C and the minimum fan speed set to 35%. If it's still loud then it means that you need to do some maintenance - at the very least clean the dust inside the unit and replace the thermal paste on the Cell and RSX chips. If you don't feel confident about opening the unit, most retro game stores will be able to do that for you. Proper maintenance is critical for PS3s (especially the original fat models) if you don't want them to overheat and die.
