My third question relating to whether to update or not had to do whether you think the current CEX 4.91 build is stable? Seems like all bugs have been addressed? If so, I will certainly update.

Appreciate your help!
4.91 seems stable, and if you do run into any issues you can always QA flag and downgrade back.

Thank you! Should I grab the one from the folder or the one on the landing page? Just want to make sure I get the correct one.

Unrelated, if possible: Would I also be able to transition to from CEX to [PEX] [CEX] if I decided to do so at some point by just installing via USB or would there be more involved?

Thank you for very much for your detailed response! I think I understand it better now.

I've been able to locate it in the menu. I've never had to update it in the past ever since I installed CFW as I was never aware of it, so I've never thought of it. It still allows me to download the install package when I press the update option, but I'm not sure what changes it would make once installed. If I were to proceed, would it offer me anything I already don't have or re-install what I already have?

Would this be the only way to update it?

If you press Yes to download the "update" at the moment, you will be greeted with an error.

I suppose you could update manually, but it could cause complications, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

As @NiQ said, 4.91 seems to be stable, and downgrading back to 4.90 is very easy.

You can switch between CEX and PEX just by installing them as system updates from a USB disk. No need to jailbreak again or anything.

Thank you for your the responses I've received from yourself and @CFW-Us3r - you've been very helpful.

Lastly, I wanted to confirm where to get 4.91? Should I get it from the folder or main page? Just want to make sure I get the corect one as I know there had been multiple updates during its rollout.

I would personally download it from the folder, although there shouldn't be any difference.

The very first post of this thread has a link to the folder with the most recent version.

It's been almost 2 weeks since the release of the CFW, but the other versions still haven't been released. No communication from Evilnat either, maybe he forgot? Oh well, it seems i'll have to stick to the old version.

Evilnat didn't forget to release noBD/noBT/noBD+noBT/OC. Indeed they were released for Evilnat 4.91 CEX, but he had to remove them due a bug in LV2 kernel was found in the initial releases from March 9th-10th.

A fixed version of CEX/DEX/PEX/D-PEX was re-released on March 12th. Now he's doing additional tests to be sure that no more changes are needed before make the other 16 versions, which is a lot of work.

Hello all! I've installed on my CECHA00 4.91 Evilnat. I want to downgrade to any OFW firmware (i've tried 4.90, 3.55 and 2.60) but when enabling QA flag + button combo on Network Settings, i get an error "no applicable data was found" from updating via storage device. Also, i boot Recovery Mode to try install firmware from there, but all firmwares come up with an error " The data is corrupted (8002f2c5)". To sum up, i can't install any Official Firmware besides 4.91. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Ps3 custom firmware
Fan tools - max mode 0xff but When active, it shows 99% fan speed, it should be 100%, I would appreciate it if you fix this.

There was an issue like that with the 1st release of CFW 4.91, which was fixed around the 13th. Maybe you somehow used that faulty first release?

EDIT: Also if you're on DEX try switching to CEX (if you're on PEX you don't need to reinstall the firmware, just switch to CEX mode from the CEX2DEX menu). Officially devkits do not support DVD / Blu-Ray playback at all, and while Evilnat did port it, bugs are not out of the question.

Greetings from Greece.

All PS3 phat models are CFW compatible, including CECHL04.

Go to http://ps3toolset.com from the PS3 Internet Browser to patch the flash memory to allow custom firmware installation.

Once your PS3 is patched, restart and install this CFW. Follow this video for more details on the steps:

If your PS3 already has CFW 4.87 installed, you don't have to jailbreak your console again. You can install this CFW directly from XMB > Settings > System Update > Storage Media or recovery menu.
