4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Hi, if I'm now on cfw 4.90 can I just immediately update to your cfw 4.91? Or do I need to install ofw 4.91 , do the whole jailbreaking process, and then install cfw 4.91?

I know I can probably just update to cfw 4.91 I just need some confirmation because I'm doing this on a bc system and I'm extremely Afraid of bricking it

You can update from CFW to CFW without any issues.

The only brick possibility would be to have a power cut during the update process, as usual. But no brick from CFW.

It's the same as a normal system update. Just take the most up to date files and run on the storage option. It's completely safe and the updated one took care of bugs with bc machines. Now if you want the different variants like OC and stuff you'll have to wait but for the normal your good to go.

Thanks a lot

I know I should make an individual thread, but I thought I'd ask

my ps3 not detecting ps1 or ps2 games, both show up as data discs
it's not the disc drives fault, and yes my ps3 is backwards compatible. DVD movies and music CDs play great
I have tried enabling/disabling cobra, trying rebug, debug cfws, everything. It just doesn't want to recognize them. By the way, this randomly happened one day, it used to be able to read everything.
Now, I've had this issue for a long time now, and all I can wish for is that going to 4.91 will resolve this issue somehow, cause honesty I've tried everything. Today I swapped my blu ray drive just in case (with a really nice two lens drive from a cechh) and still, the same issue, so the bad drive case is cancelled out.

Blu Ray ps3 games play perfectly fine as well :/

The were many reports of people losing the capability of playing PS1 and PS2 games after installing CFW 4.91. Evilnat has addressed this issue and release a fix recently.

Check it out, maybe that's the problem you are dealing with. Another option would be to enable QA flags and downgrade your console to FW 4.88 or any other CFW that can play PS1 and PS2 without issues.

What memory card adapter? Can that exploit run PS1 backups without using discs?
No, only backup discs. The PS1 has no support for any type of storage other than the optical drive and memory cards, and the latter are 128kb in size. The only way to get PS1 to play games from something other than discs is to hardmod it, replacing the drive with a drive emulator. Otherwise just play on the PS3, or DuckStation.

I though both CEX and DEX QA debug menus had the same features and the advantage of using Evilnat PEX over Evilnat CEX was that it allowed CEX to have debug features. Also, what are the differences between the CEX and DEX QA debug menus and what's MemCard PRO2?
They're different, DEX has a lot more options and most of the interesting stuff is there, although Evilnat has since copied over the most useful functions to the CFW tools menu (e.g. the ability to change the console region). Evilnat 4.91 PEX allows you to switch between CEX-QA and DEX debug menus without completely changing to DEX, which is a nice bonus.

Here it is my CFW 4.91.2 [BETA 1] in case anyone wants to test it:

https://mega.nz/folder/kFNQnL4Y#d2ar9dMW8fgT-afd3ceE3A

At the moment there are only the PEX (CEX) and D-PEX (DEX) versions.
I need to know if the bugs that appeared randomly in the PS3/PS2/PSP/PS1 and Redump ISOS have been solved, everything is working fine for me

Thanks!

Is there a changelog/fixlog for your beta versions? I'd be happy to test the re-marry issue when reverting back to OFW, once you got to work on that.

i've got two CECHC04 I can test it with, one with BD-400 (BMD-001) and one with BD-410 (BMD-003).

Thanks!

I may be wrong on this as it's been awhile this topic has been brought up but I'm pretty sure you just swapped your bc Blu-ray drive with a non bc Blu-ray drive. Swapping different models can be problematic on their own. Also as stated the problem was software related and the new cfw has addressed and fixed the problem. So put back in your original drive and update the cfw

XStation allows the PS1 to play backups via microSD card but like you said, it's a hardmod (ODE) and it's very expensive (at least, if ready to work without the user having to screw or solder anything). Do you think one day an exploit will be released for the PS1 which allows it to load PS1 backups without using discs? I'm asking this because I never had a PS1. Is the PS3 more compatible with PS1 games than the PS2 using POPStarter with patches?

What's MemCard PRO2 for the PS1 and PS2? Does it only allow to store PS1 and PS2 game saves on a microSD card or USB device? Is SMB still the best option for a PS2 Slim to play PS2 backups compatibility and speed-wise or MX4SIO is now the better one? What's better, OPL or Neutrino (even though the latter is CLI, so it's harder for me to use)?

One day probably. Xstation is closed source unfortunately but some attempts for open source project exists : https://github.com/paulocode/picostation

I updated to 4.91 and nothing, I now downgraded to 4.88 like you said and again nothing my ps3 just doesn't like burned games :frown new:. This is really frustrating honestly

One question. If there was a 4.91 mamba plugin, would the cfw tools menu work the same way? Also a simple standard cex cfw with no mods, just ready to accept mamba would be an option too.

Hi mate, do you know when CFW 4.91 [CEX] [OC] will be released for overclock?
This is from Evilnat: "At the moment there are only the PEX (CEX) and D-PEX (DEX) versions.
I need to know if the bugs that appeared randomly in the PS3/PS2/PSP/PS1 and Redump ISOS have been solved, everything is working fine for me.

Most of the CFW Tools menu options use xai_plugin to perform the actions.

Some options may be using new opcodes added to the new Cobra payload in 4.91 (which is still named 8.4).
But since the source code of both components haven't been released, Mamba payload haven't been updated to support these features.
