4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

I purchased a used 2004A so I installed BETA6 on it and all good.
But now I want to upgrade the hdd to an ssd, I inserted the same usb stick I used to install the firmware, but after pressing START and SELECT to restore the system it doesn't detect an applicable update.

EDIT: Apparently the "fix" was to unplug the controller after pressing START+HOME...

just know i cant pinpoint if issues im having is from Beta6 or not , but generally there are "Quirks" w/ an SSD. along w/ no TRIM Support , the SSD will die faster than it should. (some people had had games just bug up/console frezzing. if your looking for speed+ cheap seek out an still good SSHD. beyond that be ready for Hiccups every now n then. )

Makes sense, I will get and hdd if needed. Right now the unit wasn't powering with the old hdd so I want to test/fix using what I have on hand. I figure I will use the unit like for 2h per week at most, shouldn't really have to worry about the ssd longevity maybe.

I edited my post above since I found the "solution" for my issue.

Md5s not included in 4.91.2 update
Good day and welcome to the forum.
As for the inclusion of MD5, these have been omitted as it's not necessary as firmware is packaged in a secure ZIP and can/may create confusion with so many iterations and MD5 mismatch etc for the numbers of versions pushed. If ZIP extraction errors occur= bad download, otherwise, if still unsure, you can also test zip integrity via 7zip or Winrar, dependent upon which software you are using to rest assured. Some additional peace of mind, I have downloaded and flashed ALL 6 Beta iterations without errors, or the need to re-download. Good files, great cloud storage. I hope this helps!

I have a problem with cooling on the console. When I put in the PS2 game disk (whether it's Fahrenheit or Reservoir Dogs game) the fan speed it stuck at constant RPM. Then after an hour of playing the console either shows a prompt that it's about to overheat, or when I finish playing in time and exit emulation (ps2_emu) then the console seems to suddenly realize that it's in need of cooling and runs like a vacuum cleaner. I didn't have this problem with 4.90 (as far as I remember, I could just downgrade it and test it again). Also not sure if it's caused by CFW or by webMAN. What I know tho is that it happens on my CECHA01 (that has been delidded) as well as on my CECHA12 (that hasn't been delidded). Is there something I can do with it or maybe a way to provide some input for investigation?

Also thank you for all the hard work so that a couch potato like me can enjoy his old console.

Unfortunately when playing PS2 games it is not possible to use dynamic fan control, so the fans run at a constant speed, and if that's too slow then the console can overheat. Try playing a PS3 game for at least an hour and see what's the max fan speed it reaches, then set that speed as the PS2 fan speed. Note that if it's above 50% it means your console definitely needs to be serviced. It's possible that whoever delidded the chip did a lousy job.

Do external HDD have to be defragged to speed ISO read access and to avoid black screens on exFAT/NTFS games? Can defrags (especially many of them) increase hard drive writes and that may negatively impact the life of storage?

Normally it isn't required with modern OS, however, ps3 doesn't support TRIM and uses USB is 2.0. There are instances where you will see a return after defragging your external SSD (Ref: https://www.pcworld.com/article/447356/fragging-wonderful-the-truth-about-defragging-your-ssd.html) You will impact the life of the drive though as it has to perform additional writes in order to organize the data.

All this being said, you will definitely see an improvement on HDD with defragging after writing and removing large ammounts of data to the drive.

I didn't read this entire thread, but many of the PS3 SME's have discussed SSD usage at length here. This may answer a lot of your questions so I recommend reading the entire thread: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps3-lack-of-trim-and-the-potential-for-ssd-use.32672/

When I try to install this CFW (4.91.2 BETA4 or BETA6, I get the message at 70% of the way through it copying to storage:

The data is corrupted.
(8002F957)

I then tried it using the Recovery menu, and it does the same thing, except the message reads:

The data is corrupted.
(8002F2C5)

What do you have to do in this circumstance?

EDIT: Ah wait, it OK. I was being a bit of a dumbass! I successfully loaded the flash memory patch file using PS3Toolset, but didn't apply it! DOH! Remedied now. All working! As you were! (I'm still new at this!)

What firmware are you currently on?

What backup manager are you using? the last time someone told me IRISMAN did work but multiMAN failed (years ago)..

It always has been a thing since CFW 4.46 ish.. you can go back and forth
Oh thanks mate, Irisman just done perfectly
Very many thanks
Oh finally

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all the great work!
i wanted to tell that after the update of Beta 6, WebMan is tripping.....when i press the refresh XML and XMB the systems returns an YLOD. when i start a PS3 game through WebMan it shoots me a YLOD. When i start the same PS3 game through MultiMan, no single YLOD is being thrown. also the WebMan options has dissappeared 2 times within 3 hrs and had to reinstall the Beta 6 update twice to get the WebMan options back.

The PS3 system i have is a CechK04.

Greetings,

glad that worked. However that makes no sense to me.

there shouldn't be any difference between how irisman mounts it versus other managers when Cobra payload is used unless the way it handles rawseciso is somewhat different.

any thoughts @aldostools ?

After successfully updating to BETA 6 4.91.2 I was reading the release notes, and noticed it says you can downgrade straight to 3.55 CFW. Would this be the REBUG 3.55 downgrader release, which then allows you to drop further back again? I'm interested in going back to the earliest my console allows, which is lower than 3.55.
