4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Ah yes sorry, I made a mistake on the calculations between bytes and bits, so it's because of the limitation of the transfer speed of the hard drive itself and its performance and not the SATA interface, and maybe the performance of the console's CPU.
The current limits of approx 20MB/s seem to be software based. Downgrade to FW 4.21 or below and it will get approx 50% faster.

I think someone with the skills could figure out what changed and bring that 50% speed increase to newer FW but no one has done it so far.

This calls for @Evilnat XD

I'm assusming the sata hdd is quicker than bluray even if we replaced the drive with a adapter like the gamecube or ps1.

How exactly does the virtual memory card work, can it be read directly off a usb stick or does it always have to be on the stored on the hdd itself?

I tried launching a uLE iso on my ps3 but it just crashes after the ps2 logo, I haven't tried a swapmagic iso to see if it can run homebrew ELFs from the virtual memory card, we'd still be limited by the official 8MB magicgate size or can we go up to 64MB or 128MB?
Yeah, the HDD is quicker. The BD drive is slow, which is the reason for some mandatory installs. Same reason for forced installs on PS4 and 5.

Okay thanks for the answer. I see the problem is certainly and purely software, and this the same thing for just download content from internet (ps store for exemple), not only FTP transfer.

I think downloading is considerably slower. I have my PS3 directly connected to Ethernet, and I think it took like 3 hours to download 7GBs.

Edit: that's downloading from the PSN store btw.

Edit 2: mind you, iirc, the ps3 only downloads from the store while on the xmb. it goes into idle mode if playing a game. you're supposed to enable downloading content from the nonactive hours options, which also downloads and installs (I think) system updates, if you have it enabled. your ps3 will turn on at a specified time, and download your content, which may actually be faster. then, it will turn off after about two hours or maybe after the download is complete.

The store is a bit random too, even pausing the download and unpausing can result in very different speeds but it wont really max out a PS3s download. I think PS3 really gets low priority on the store these days.

Locally on LAN with FTP transferring large files like ISO you can get about 1GB per minute or a little more transferred to internal HDD, its not too bad really.

Once upon a time I did try to start a bug bounty with $50, hoping it would build up to few hundred and someone would take up the challenge to get those pre 4.30 speeds back, but it got cancelled as the "bug" was not defined clearly enough.

EDIT: BTW the PS3 seems to have the same transfer limit when downloading via HTTP, so this is not a FTP plugin issue. You can see here how fast the 15GB pkg downloads via local web server.

I don't know all that factors that go into ftp, but I remember getting about 15-18MBs/s wirelessly on the series x by comparison. Ftp doesn't have to do with Internet speeds though, but that's about as fast as my computer can do, I think, so it may be able to go even faster. My current laptop has virtual LAN, with no Ethernet port, which I don't know how that works.

Yes I meant replacing the actual bluray drive itself with a hdd to maximize the i/o transfer of that interface.

These are the supposed max numbers when it reachs the outer disc so it's obvious it can go quicker if it was reading from a hdd or ssd instead.

Blu-ray Disc read maximum is at 2× speed (72 Mbit/s)
DVD disc read maximum is at 8× speed (86.40 Mbit/s)

I think they have an ode, which is how ird files were created iirc.

The FTP on the PS3 is limited to 100MB/s?

100Mb it is not 100MB or 100MiB.

So 100/8=x bytes to get mebi bytes. ;) But realistically, ~10MiB/s via RJ45 is best in majority cases what you will achieve.

@DeViL303 Maybe it is related also too changing sync with async write on HDD which has been changed in some 4.21+ fw? And since then, ppl also starting complain that deleted games i.e in mM not freeing their space (because sync was not invoked).

The PS3 is not compatible with SSDs, so it's pointless (and counterproductive) to use them. You will gain more issues than loading speeds.

Also, you can't disable TRIM on an SSD. That's a feature handled at OS level, which the PS3's OS has not implemented on.
Yes you can, just plug on the pc and disable, after that use HDD LLF to wipe out the disk and them install on the ps3 and install the SSD on it. Is not my fault that we don't have a brand new HDD on the market anymore...

One suggestion I have is to buy a 1tb external HDD and remove the HDD from its shell. A lot of external hdds are just an internal HDD connected to a logic board iirc. External hdds are most likely going to be more common as laptops move on to m.2 ssd's internally.

Another possibility is to resize the partition of a 2tb HDD. I'm not sure how to do that, but I think people have done it for using 1.5tb with the PS3. however, like I said, biggest problem is the HDD height, which hdds only go up to 2tb at 9.5mm. you might be able to use a 12.5mm drive if you remove the HDD caddie, then resize the partition. Dunno, just thinking aloud.

Hello there i followed an youtube video to jailbrake/hack my ps3 i im stuck at installing evilnat, when i click on logo of evilnat it gose black screen and then pop up with this message ``evilnat required data failed``
