4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

@Evilnat I was wondering if it is possible to add a NAND version of "boot to recovery" in advanced power options? I see for NOR but not NAND. I found a link/pkg for it if needed if doable.

Also I have a longshot question as well...
For linux/other os options it is possible to maybe have a auto detect/install correct needed files for NAND/NOR to avoid confusion between guides and what files/error files. So that way only clean, true needed files are installed, such as petitboot for example.
Main reason why I haven't done linux yet is because I have NAND and do not want a shiny brick. Folding@home is biggest reason for needed linux. No port or pkg that works that I am aware of. However if not worth the hassle then no sweat. Just ideas is all.

Here is link is was talking, refer to where it is decribing 1.06 from what I seen. Also there is pkg download at top... https://www.psx-place.com/threads/a...-10-released-a-xmb-mod-for-all-cfw-hen.25754/

Edit: I thought your power options had, it was ultimate toolbox. My apologies, but feel free on the link still if wanted.

LOL, we thought the same, earlier today i asked Nat about it

BTW Nat's recovery option detects the flash type and if it's NAND it will return a message saying that the feature is only for NOR.

I have few other ideas that creep up time to time, one being maybe a use for 8th core option. I personally dont know of it would hurt turning it on, but the idea being for standby/rest mode. Having the rest mode act kinda like ps4; abilities to suspend games, power usb ports, ect.
Another being proper xmb organization for games, videos, pictures, and music. Being able to arrange by manually changing the install dates would be a start since thats how games are originally organized to show icon/preview.

One more: zram/swap memory on usb/sd card bay to help with ram. If doable
Just ideas :-)

The 8th SPE is useless and disabled on factory checks. It could be damaged, or not, but disabled nonetheless. There's also a theory that if the 8th SPE is dead or defective upon enabling, it could brick your console (nobody has reported any test cases on this, it's simply not worth it).

This subject was discussed many times before here on the forums:

So why the toggle if pointless? I figured if original developers didn't utilize, maybe a dev on here could. Just thoughts though.

The toggle is there to be used by homebrew developers (the same as converting a console to DEX, and many other features useful for devs). But developing on SPEs is very difficult to do. And since no game can make use of the 8th SPE, it's pointless to enable it.

Gotcha, thank you for explaining. I didn't fully know.

@Evilnat

I was testing out the Dynamic FAN Control settings and it seems they all have a minimum fan speed limit of 33%.

This keeps my CECHB00 system under 60C on XMB and creates a bit of noise too.

Would it be possible to lower this minimum limit?

Same with the PS2 fan. Perhaps I am blessed with this system thermal-wise, but 40% fan is overkill. Having the option to go lower than 40% would be fantastic. Thoughts?

the rap.bin file is a compilation of all .rap? some rap are missed... no way to bypass rap at all? i know the piracy law here.. but now ps3 is retrogaming i think.. not?

while it is in the eyes of years alone, its still "half-ass" supported by sony (PSN is still active and you can technically buy New-to-you copies digitally just not directly on the console,) it doesn't get that "yar har" high seas Pass.

you guys do realize that you can still get ps4/5 versions of some games for free if you own the ps3 version, right? with that being said, don't expect it to be okay to pirate ps3 games digitally just because they're legacy.

You mean like the earlier ps2/ps3 remasters?
didn't Capcom, Rockstar & Konami remove all links & downloads to previous releases when they ported them into the HD remaster collections?
The PS4/5 still doesn't have a PS3 emulator rite? metal gear solid 3 is a xbox/pc port instead of psp or ps3, an the mgs4 nvidia shield port got removed from the google store due to licensing issuses, I think it's supposed to be getting included in the 2nd collection set their putting out, no idea about twin snakes, probably not if they already included mgs1 in collection set 1.

Hello everyone, I am using PS3 slim. After the 4.91.2 update, every time I turn on my PS3, the date and time are reset to 2012. How can I solve this?

Does anyone has a bug on latest evilnat and latest webman mod where time and date resets to 29/12 0:00 every time you turn on the console?
Downgraded to rebug and the problem is gone.
I don't use webman, I also have the reset problem, how do I solve it?

I have the same problem and it resets every time I open it, but I don't use webman. Is there another way to solve this? I use 4.91.2 cex. This happened after the update.

.

probably the update was just a coincidence,
your time problem is caused by the clock battery needing to be replaced.
open the console and change the cr2032 coincell.
on the fat consoles it's in a holder - hopefully the slim is also in a holder and not soldered down.

It might also be useful in the case of OtherOS, but in either case you'd need something to actually make use of it. Would have been a great thing when the PS3 was a computation powerhouse, but now when a low end cellphone or a Raspberry Pi is more powerful in an order of magnitude, I agree it's pretty much pointless.

By the way, in that other thread they mentioned that homebrew doesn't use the SPUs at all, which is a bit sad, because nothing technically prevents that. It's just insanely difficult. If someone actually decided to go through all that trouble and fully utilize the SPUs we could see some insane things. If I calculate correctly, the PS3 is capable enough to emulate even the Wii if the peripherals are emulated by the SPUs (and syscall traps are used for the game code instead of full CPU emulation).

This is kinda what I was getting at. Just because others didn't use doesn't mean its not possible. Anything is possible. Especially when there is UNUSED hardware. Just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it cant be. I have no idea why this is unseen by most. Potential means Potential for a reason. The only biggest downside is if its a dead spu. Then it is useless. On this note, I can understand why nothing has been done to try to unlock the ps3 fully in this aspect. As for ram, there is the idea of Zram/swap is that can be possibly achived as well to maybe help. If actually doable that is. I am all for unlocking the PS3 hidden secrets/abilities; even after Nineteen years new things happen.

That's the reason why it's useless. No guarantee that every 8th SPE isn't dead nor damaged, not everyone knows how to enable it, so it's out of reach for the Average Joe.

Releasing a software to the public that requires this specific, disabled-on-factory, piece of hardware, which can or can not work (because using a damaged SPE is the same as nothing) is useless. Just some nice proof of concept of what the CELL can do.

Also, which homebrew really requires multiple cores?. As far as I know, no task on the PS3 requires that much power (maybe ripping movies but I don't think so).

In short: possible?, yes, useful?, not.

None that currently exist, but there are many cases it would be extremely useful - Emulation of most 6th gen consoles (e.g. GameCube) is definitely possible but you'd definitely need the SPUs for that. If you wanted to create a media player that supports H.265 / AV-1 you'd also definitely need to use the SPUs.
I doubt you'd need the 8th SPU, and I really doubt a homebrew developer would release something that requires it (seeing that it could be broken and that it can't be enabled on HEN), but the regular six cores can be useful for homebrew in certain cases.
