Hello PSXPlace, So my ps3s rsx is dying and it's on its way out so i plan on getting a fat model soon that has a 90nm rsx. I am not really knowledged in the field with rsx's and such. so i'm wondering if there's anything i should be worried about as i've heard lots of different things about 90nm rsx's.

Hi,

I have CECHG with 200d uptime and it has 90nm RSX. I have limited temperatures to 62 degrees and I think that is the reason it is still alive. Sonys original fan curve is too lazy and let your PS3 run too warm. You need CFW though. Webmanmod default is 68, but I think it is too high.

alright. so if i just increase the fan speed on this system when i eventually get via webman, i should be fine?

Not 100% sure, as I have experience only one console. But I have seen multiple G and H models with only 60-80d uptime and they're YLOD. Anything is better than Sonys default fan curve with 90nm RSX. And once you have YLOD on your console it will die after reflow no matter how you try. I have removed PSU and BD-drive so it would stay cool, but no luck. I was able to complete couple games, but had to reflow like 5 times in meantime.

Keep in mind that Dynamic fan adjust in webmanmod does not work in PS2 mode. So best would be rewrite new fan settings directly to syscon. That would probably work.

Update: so i've got the cechq fat and i put it in webman settings to auto at 62c. the highest i saw the fan speed get to was 48%. this was testing by playing the prologue on resident evil 6.

Please just get a 65nm fat, CECHJ/K/L/P's are some of the cheapest PS3's you can get these days.

The 10-30$ you'd save getting a defective one like the CECHG/H isnt worth the headache of having all of your saves trapped on a dead console that will cost hundreds of dollars to fix

The webman fan curve is just kicking the can down the road since it's probably been run at syscon settings for over a decade, almost all 90nm fats can run up to 200 days tops, every 65nm fat can forever until the tokins give out. Someone reported having one with 1600 days though I dont remember where
