PS4 A small tantrum about consoles seemingly becoming more restrictive.

I came across a bunch of blu-ray disks I had burned movies onto quite some time ago. I put the disks into a PS3 and was browsing through the movies I had. I played a few of them to see if they worked and they did.

I tried inserting the disks into a PS4 and was greeted with a "unsupported disk" message and could not do anything with the disks that I had just browsed through and played using a PS3.

It seems like a console released in 2006 (2009 considering it was a PS3 slim) has a superior capability than a console released in 2013 to play media.

I was dismayed that a PS4 has quite a lot of trouble playing most .avi files, I also encountered .mp4 files it refused to play.

My assumption is that it may be by design and that this trend will continue and potentially worsen. I was surprised recently by the inability, or really, the purposeful restriction of a PS4 to connect to generic bluetooth devices such as speakers and microphones.

The PS4 is incompatible with a Logitech G27, a racing peripheral being manufactured up until 2015, two years after the release of the PS4. I do not know who is at fault, it could be Logitech, it could be Sony or they could both bear responsibility.
It is likely a attempt to promote sales of new racing peripherals by either company.

Thank you for reading.

Wait people still use MP4 & AVI? Let alone Blu-ray? But seriously all my burnt BDR worked fine and most moved away from those containers for video files is my best guess.
