Yeah, i would assume it works the same. Once downgraded, you can install newer fw like normal. I assume its the same process as CEX, just toggle qa flag before downgrade.

Not sure about the A0 tid, but it shouldn't be affected with firmware installations.[\s]

GEX is just like DEX so it wouldn't need bgtoolset to downgrade IIRC. be really careful with downgrading process.

Real GEX can downgrade and upgrade firmwares easily (GEX OFW 3.60-4.70). The issue is doing it on a non GEX PlayStation 3 system like a retail unit. If @hoodangel downgrades to GEX OFW 3.60, it will be stuck there and he won't be able to use newer GEX OFW without the risk of bricking his system…

Just to elaborate some more, I was helping @hoodangel troubleshoot Tekken 6.0 using GEX OFW 4.70 on my Namco System 357C. I have confirmed before that the game works fine on firmwares 2.51,3.60, and 3.70 as the HDD we got is a special firmware free HDD. I did a few tests before with GEX OFW 4.XX but for the games I play, I don't need newer FW, most games from the launch of the system to around the early 2010s can run on 3.60/3.70 GEX OFW perfectly fine. Taiko no Tatsujin games being the exception which used 4.XX GEX FW when the series first appeared on the platform.
I'm not no where near an expert at how these systems/games work but this is from some research I've gathered from the past two years.
Tekken 6.0 originally shipped with 1.90 GEX FW and T6BR shipped with 2.51 GEX FW and those also seem to have been locked to a specific firmware version at first but some special firmware free game HDDs also exist. These versions allow you to use any firmware and some, mainly the Japanese versions of those HDDs have a newer PS3UPDAT.PUP file inside the ARCDIR folder, the firmware file can be either 3.60 GEX or 3.70 GEX OFW. I also own some export versions of these special "3.40" HDDs (for T6BR) and these don't have the .PUP file. You can also install newer FW and the game should actually still work. I actually had to do this so T6.0 could work with 4.70 GEX FW or else if I did it the other way around (use 4.70 FW on a HDD and install the game that way), the game would constantly bootloop, so I had to install 3.60/3.70 then I can update to newer 4.XX FW. The later games released on the system don't have this weird issue with FWs unless it requires a specific firmware version to boot into the game.
Take this with a grain of salt as again, this is all theoretical, I don't have a clear understanding on how these systems/software really work. :D
Below I have posted a picture of some T6BR HDDs I have in my collection, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away :)

Haha, guess what guys, Tekken 6 BR stopped working aswell, watchdog timeout due to "dongle error" dongle it self is still fine. wasnt used for any different game than 6BR

IDK guys what the **** is going on, reformatted dongle couple times, been throught "tekken 6 BR dongle reformatting process aswell"
after that : watchdog due to no dongle, reverted my old dongle data on it
ka-boom works again..

BTW : Seems like i fixed issue on my end but still it would be nice to see GEX support for CEX/DEX, thread can be closed thank you guys for help
I would need a working GEX PS3 just for testing, then I could look into it, otherwise I don't want to waste my time. need to know exactly how it is working

besides, I am too busy with my own things. first my Tools, and then want to mess with Superslim

how about you @Joonie ?

So I was actually able to test out the GEX CFW @Joonie provided and it works fine on a slim I was able to convert with the help from @hoodangel. The dongle stuff also worked fine and was able to test Tekken 6.0, Tekken 6BR and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited without any problems whatsoever. It ALMOST works like normal GEX 4.70 OFW but with some minor setbacks, one of them being that the system still retains the stock fan speed, the 357C/369 don't have it on full blast but it spins a little bit more faster than stock PS3s. I'll continue doing some tests though as this is very interesting.

wooow, really great job. i have a not working 357b (board Ver001). Also i have a working PS3 cechL04 with the same motherboard as 357b. Do you think i can use joonyies GEX CFW 4.7 for my PS3 cechL04 to convert it to GEX or do i need to use a ps3 slim cech2504 like you did?

i have a broken 357b with fitting ps3 (OFW 4,81 ver001 motherboard) and a broken 357c with fitting ps3 (OFW 3.55 jtp001motherboard). Is there a way to get any 357 system back to life without bricking ps3.

hi dear
i have an arcade machin called dead strom pirates
the motherboard of this device is ps3 type and now is broken.
i have a hdd and dongle of this gaame that is intact
i want to replace the M.B with a ps3 M.B
and actually chang its firmware from CEX to GEX.
of course, i am not a professional in working with ps3.
now, i want your help.
can you help me?

please help with this! my 369 board is broken. reflow will be risky as the original owner has clearly already done it before. makes a lot more sense to use a fresh new ps3 slim to install. i have the pasta 4.70 cfw but i cant seem to get ps3 to allow the update from evilnat 3.91. please please help.
