i opened up my ps3 after it ylod on me and when i got down to the thermal paste it was mostly dried up and crumpled apart when poked with some tweezers. is mx6 not reccomended or did i apply it wrong?
it might explain why the temps would get rise pretty quickly.

i havent had issues with it until i used it on a ps3 but it also was a new tube so maybe its a cheaper knock off? my 360s still have the paste looking fine so not sure coiuld also just not work well with ps3s.

it doesnt seem like the ps3 is getting at its max temp and if it is u got bigger things to worry about maybe its due to how big the surface area is for it to spread or just not spread corectly.

mate i'm at 65 degree maximum with webman mod. i reverted all of my overclock settings (i bricked my ps3 tho) so stock 500/650mhz with it and it goes to 65 degrees celcius with 53percent fan. so its not normal with freshly applied mx6. before it i used mastergel maker from coolermaster and its well over it.

the max temp of the thermal paste not the console i know it shouldnt dry up that fast which is why i said we either applied it wrong or the surface area is to large for it causing it to dry. i could be wrong on both of these but its what im thinking.

if that thermal paste uses a brush, don't use the brush. try globbing it on, then using something like a credit card or one of those things to get out bubbles for a screen protector to apply evenly. I don't know if that will work on the ps3 or not, but I've had a lot of success on the 360 that way. I was using arctic silver, which looks like a suppository. lmao!

i didnt use anyting to spread it i let the heat clamps and the pressure spread it like i do for everything else and never had a issue until now.

not on my end my friend, im getting ussually max 65 degrees in my console playing the whole day under a 40% fan speed and also it has stock speeds of 500/650mhz

I dunno, I spread it evenly, and made sure it wasn't thick anywhere or there were bubbles on the 360. I haven't tried a ps3. I don't plan to change mine, because my system is a superslim, and it seems to run pretty cool as it is. I almost never hear the fan, and I've beaten several long games on it, including tales of graces f and tales of xillia. maybe I'm lazy, but I wouldn't look into it unless the system was giving me problems, but ironically, at that point, the system probably would have damage. I'm legit though, and a psn+ subscriber, so I have cloud saving and trophies set to update at 8 p.m. approximately every day. unfortunately, it doesn't work with memory cards as I tested it, virtual memory cards I mean. anyway, I think a lot of people were unaware just how hot their systems were getting, so knowing that with temps being displayed was kinda a double-edged sword. once I knew of rrod, mostly due to overheating causing damage, I could never really feel comfortable gaming on the 360. that's why I say it wasn't a good thing, even if your system has supposed good temps. I talked with al azif about this regarding the ps4, and we both agreed, the system runs well without that concern, so being concerned on any future console is nonsense. don't worry unless you encounter issues. I think really the last consoles to have problems were the early 360s and ps3s. future consoles--don't worry about it!

edit : also my ps3 is using evilnat 4.91 beta 13 pex (dex converted) with 700/800 clocks.

edit2: my fan settings are...

webman auto at 66C° - fan starts at 36 percent goes all the way up to the 80 percent

edit3: my room temp is 25C° so its normal i think.

65 66 is good for rsx in my opinion.

I repasted mine with MX6, something like 2~3 months ago and I don't perceive any degradation regarding the temps.
I won't reopen it now just to verify how it looks though x)
Spreading the paste is my favorite method, or you might try the X method too.

yesterday it was holding at the same temps with 50 or more fan usage. i dont think its normal and i repasted it. i will post here everyday. cause i cant remember which tube of mx6 i used at home (at turkey there is a lot of fake arctic thermal pastes and i know one of it is fake.)

rsx is at 700 vram is at 800mhz. slim 2004a the console is NOT delidded. but i punched a big hole at top shell where the fan located is. room temp 25°C
