Are PKG files required for PS3 on FTP?

Hi all,

Apologies for probably a very noob question but I am confused. I have PS3 games saved on my PC as they were installed using RPCS3. Using FTP, I was attempting to copy the game folders as directed (dev_hdd0\GAMES\) on the PS3 but the games won't show up on refresh. Are the PKG files required to install for the games to run or have I missed something?

Thanks!

You misleading paths. "GAMES" is for extracted data from discs (obsolete anyway, use *.iso disc images from "PS3ISO"). "game" is for unpacked data from *.pkg. BTW: slashes are those "/", not those "\" because it is not Windows but FreeBSD fork. ;)

I don't understood Your question anyway. I don't see how it is related to thread title too.

If You want copy games from PC to PS3, then just copy them via eg. FTP (You need FTP server on PS3 side, build-in in MultiMAN, WebMANMOD etc. and FTP client on PC side). If contents are those which XMB understand, then additionally You need to rebuild database or else they will not show there (games/patches/dlc installed from PKG, saves, trophies, vmcs).

Different things is also ownership of saves and trophies.

If it was installed via PKG you will need to install again from PKG.
Not sure of the logic here? There is no difference between the data in a pkg and the data dumped from dev_hdd0/game/ after a pkg has been installed. The only thing lost is the retail signing on the pkg which is not important unless you want to install the data onto OFW.

The data can be copied to other PS3s as is (with database rebuild required to see app on XMB), or repacked into a new pkg (without retail signing).

The data sure but he said he was coming from RCPS3 not from another system he is using. What I am getting at is the games are not gonna just show up after an FTP. So it would be easier reinstall especially if the profiles aren't the same. Not saying it absolutely can't be done with the right tools and such. Find it much quicker & easier to just reinstall as more then likely much easier to go about getting done. Should have been more precise that he can if he has the rap/rif & PKG files to install then act.dat & resigning saves and profiles.

Do you have the game files in PKG format on your PC and you want to transfer these PKG games to the console via FTP?
If you want to do it this way, I can help you, I used to do this on my console at the time of HEN.
connect the device via FTP using, preferably, Filezilla.
Connected, transfer the games from your PC to the device's 'package' folder, inside the 'dev_hdd0' folder, thus becoming 'dev_hdd0/packages'.
Once this is done you must install the games, you can do this by pressing X on top of the game in the 'packages' folder and confirm with X again to install.
You can also install games from the HEN menu on the XMB, but I forgot the shortcut.

It doesn't matter. As I said, contents which XMB reading (only those) must be written to database, so it is mandatory that after all transfers user must perform rebuild database.

Games aren't signed. Saves and trophies are. And this is not anyhow related to games installing this way or another.

Licenses isnt come from packages. Again, it is not related to the games installing... Whatever it is emulator or real hardware, NPDRM games needs valid license and always sticks to the user and idps, and always it must be recreated/resigned on target system.
