PS3 Are PS3 BD's compatible?

Hello, so i've been trying to fix an ol' ps3 of mine which i had lying around for months now, it has a broken BD and it got looped(it wouldn't get pass the 70% on the firmware update screen) and i couldn't seem to go around it. The console had a package menager installer which to my knowladge indicates that the console is already jail broken? Anyway, the model is a phat CECHG04. I read on the forums that i need any working compatible bluray drive and that it would allow me to update, i purchased a YLOD CECHG04 with a working blu ray drive but the drive inside the console was from a CECHH04, it was a BD-410 drive, and the seller insists that the drive was working and everything was fine with it, i have also seen something like this already, i bought a CECHG model for spare parts a few months back and it also had a BD-410 drive in it. So is it possible to remarry a different drive? Can i use this drive now to bypass the check? Sorry for a long post, i am kindda desperate for help here

The BD Drives from all the way to CECHA to CECHK are all compatible with the G Model, although you'll have to swap the Daughterboard to your original one that came with the console, i am not sure if using a different Daughterboard will help you to bypass the installation issue, i know it won't read BDs and DVDs unless it can bypass the installation with an unmarried BD Drive, which after that you can remarry it with CFW and the EID_ROOT_KEY.

Disclaimer, i have a CECHK Drive on my 60Gb,and if i am not mistaken the Daughterboard layout are different from the early BD Drives, although the BD Drive itself will work, since its a 60-Pin Connection, so i do suggest to find an early CECHA/B/C/E/G Model for the transplant.

If the console its already Jailbroken, you can install any Rebug NoBD CFW which bypasses the BD Restriction, allowing you to get the EID_ROOT_KEY via Rebug Toolbox, and then after you get the EID_ROOT_KEY install a regular Rebug CFW of the same System Version, and put the console in Factory Service Mode, via XMB+ on the Network Tab on the XMB/Custom Firmware Tools, which will allow you to remarry the BD Drive with the EID_ROOT_KEY on the ROOT USB, inserted on the USB Port closest to the BD Drive.

I am mentioning to install a Regular Rebug afterwards because i haven't had any success with remarriage of BD Drives on NoBD Rebug, but also makes sense to fail since the BD Module is bypassed from the Firmware SPRX List, but NoBD will be necessary to obtain the EID_ROOT_KEY regardless.

I have made a remarry tutorial on Diffrent noBD CFW here he can try both methods

Thank you a lot for your reply! Do i try installing HFW 4.85 first? Since i've tried a overflow nobd cfw in the past and as i remember correctly it wasn't being recognized and it said that i had no applicable update data. I will try a rebug nobd, and ill see how that goes, thank you all very much for your support.

You mentioned that your Consoles had Package Manager Installed, that means that the console is Jailbroken, could you state your Firmware Version just for curiosity?

Of course, the firmware version is 3.56
Well, i am not too familiar with 3.56s CFWs, but if there is any NoBD CFW for 3.56,use it to install, and then bump it to any Rebug 4.82 NoBD in order to bypass the BD Firmware List.

I know 3.56 can be exploited without any additional steps, but again since you have Package Manager, i assume you have a 3.56 CFW Nature, Rebug, PS3ITA, Kemaw perhaps, which bumping it to 4.82 Rebug NoBD shouldn't be a problem, to install it as a regular update via XMB or Safe Mode.

Thank you a lot, i'll try that now, it's really slow though, the time it takes for the PS3 to find any updates on my usb is like FOREVER, so it takes quite a bit of time for me to try different CFW to see if any would get recognized, thank you a lot, ill post updates later after i've tried a different NOBD, thank you again for your help

One question though, i am stuck in recovery mode when i format my hdd since its looped, in recovery mode it says that i need 3.56 update or higher, can i just put any NOBD firmware on it? I do not remember exactly what the firmware was before it got looped since when it did i had to format the HDD, i believe i have tried to update to 4.82 to or 4.85 and then it got looped. Sorry for these weird questions, i am still quite new to jailbreaking and all this stuff. Thank you again
