PS3 Best cfw and homebrew?

Im noob!
What is the best cex cfw and homebrew of all time? For ps3
Regarding you say you are noob, im pretty sure that you dont understand yet what means cfw and homebrew

There is nothing called best cfw or best homebrew

For cfw, its about versions, for example at the current time the lastest fw is 4.84 so you must use cfw 4.84 and for now it exists only overflow cfw 4.84. overflow is(are) a developper(or w/e) they created this cfw. you can edit your question and say who is the best developper of cfw's and it will make some sense then.
About homebrew there are many homebrews and they have different uses.

On CFW you don't have to use the latest version, it not about versions, its about preference lol. Though having a CFW that has the latest Cobra Payload (7.55) has the best compatibility for ISO's and PS2 games and such and this starts at 4.82 CFW's.

On CFW you can be on a lower FW and still have PSN access and play online, there are many methods to this. As for the CFW itself, my preference is REBUG REX & D-REX 4.82.2. With various homebrews.

e.g what I have: on one of my CFW PS3's

REBUG 4.82.2 D-REX > (in DEX > I wouldn't recommend this for people who are new to CFW or are not developers, stick to CEX < but this again is whatever your preference is really)
CCAPI > Developing, game modding, IDPS & PSID spoofing
MultiMAN > for mounting games for online play, and the file manager function
ManaGunZ > simply for the simple loading of PS2 iso's config files
webMAN MOD > Quick loading games for offline from the xmb, fan control, always active ftp server.
PSN Patch > disable syscals for online

And a few other good homebrews like Whats New on PSX Place to have the latest news from here on the XMB, even though my PC is never off most of the time lol.

If I were to set something up for any user:
Rebug 4.82.2
PSNPatch
Multiman
Webman-Mod
PS3 Proxy
Retroarch
PS3NetSvr

Similar to me, though i use RetroArch on the PC (mainly for Zelda OOT, epic game lol) with a DS3 pad and don't use a proxy, just a VPN. or netserver as I don't have my PS3 games in ISO, just JB Folder format make thing's easier, at least for what i do lol.

I personally started off using Ferrox Cobra 4.82, and was happy using it for almost a year. I decided to give Rebug REX 4.82.2 a try, which is what I currently use now. I'd recommend either one; Ferrox is the most alike to OFW, whereas Rebug has advanced features but for the most part is very similar to OFW as well.

A good homebrew I'd like to mention is Movian (formerly known as Showtime) which is a media player which supports more codecs and formats than the PS3's built-in media player, among other nice features. :) For a full list of Movian's features - see here.

This is one the best homebrews for your movie backups as it supports MKV format, plus when connected to the internet it downloads the meta data for your films then displays the film covers along with the description of the film's as well. Its really well organised, as well as the use of multiple audio file's for the films, subs and other things.

One thing I didn't get with the PS3 was that it has DivX Codecs for films but will only really play avi and mp4 films not mkv, so I see no point it other than being able to use the VOD service of DivX. but even then i would rather get the bluray, rip it and convert it to MP4 so the file size is less than 1.0GB per film in HD.

I use lastest version CFW to not have to spoof version with SEN enabler, when i want to go online i just spoof idps and disable cfw
I use to use rebug 4.82.2 and spoof to 4.84 with SEN enabler and the rest part is the same above, but i upgraded to overflow 4.84 cuz i had to use DTU to transfer games to some other OFW 4.84 consoles because DTU wont support a spoofed FW

As good a reason as any, yeah some things like this you have to for things like that. Was just saying it preference than anything else with these things. I hope these are your console your DTU transferring your games to.....

Example of having to update for me to 4.84 CFW is... am going to have to update to 4.84 to see if the gameboot still works, if not then I'll have to stay on it till I find out whats changed and re-patch it for 4.84. But Am willing to bet that it still works but am not going to hold my breath on it lol. But after that it will be back to 4.82.2 REBUG lol. I have been putting it off since the 4.84 CFW was released lol.

Just don't do a backflip onto your controller while the 4.84 update screen is displayed and you should be ok? :)

Backup Manager's / AIO utilities
----------------------------------
multiMAN
IRISMAN
ManaGunZ

you can not go wrong with any of these three. All unique but all have a shared basic feature set.
For essential CFW usage.

Now you can go for a plugin version for most of the utilities needs.
webMAN (or SMAN) from deank
or if you want extra features and and additional support for some apps then webMAN MOD (by aldostools)

Homebrew Emulators
------------------------------------------
RetroArch (but note the PS3 version is not maintained the best and latest version do include cores (emus) that do not work)
but overall most works. Contains many retro emulators, Doom 1 and 2, quake and 2048 as well.

FBA RL is also a good emulator for FBA experience

Homebrew Games -
Lots of mini games from ThatOtherDev here are some

-SixAxis Controller Support, Create your own track.
This had alot of potential and would of been nice to see advance

This one is a fun and addicting game.

http://www.psx-place.com/resources/cascade-beneath.1/
This is another simple but great idea and is very fun to play

http://www.psx-place.com/resources/dont-get-crushed.468/
I like the two above better but this is also a very fun game.

more here http://www.psx-place.com/resources/categories/homebrew-games.5/

Homebrew Games for other platforms. (a couple collection i put together)

I had plans for more but never got around to bundling them. Maybe one day soon.

Media Center
---------------------------------
Only one choice Movian, but its a good one :)

Edit: CFW WISE:
-------------------------------------------------------
REBUG CFW.
It can be very basic
Then also it can be very advanced.
Its the user choice , want to keep it simple., do not install rebug toolbox and activate the settings., You essentially have a Standard CEX CFW operating.
If you want Cobra enabled and nothing else install the toolbox, enable restart PS3 and then delete toolbox.

Right now not much reason to update to current CFW's. Unless you want to go on PSN without spoofing. So latest version of REBUG CFW and spoofing i think is still the best route for most user's

hey... there will be no "accidental updates" with me....

Back flip?.... I'm going to swan dive off the roof onto the x button....:-p:D after I have round house kicked the USB Flash drive with the update on into the USB port.... o_O:-p:D

the downside to soft mods is that they're almost always patchable. I still have a ps2 w/ matrix infinity and a wii with a wiikey v1.

Rebug 4.82.2
PSNPatch
Multiman
Webman-Mod
PS3 Proxy

This still valid today? Also what's the best cfw to mod and copy games to hdd? I have evilnat 4.89.2 rn but I wanna downgrade since I can't login to psn which makes me unable to play a copy of gta 5 I converted from blus to bles

I've always used Rebug D-REX and its still my go to currently running 4.84.4.

REBUG 4.84.2 D-REX
Outside of rebug toolbox i only use the following homebrews
MultiMAN - for mounting games for online play, and the file manager function
webMAN MOD - loading games, fan control, ftp, patching games,changing/spoofing CID(IDPS) clean history/disable sys calls & various other things.
PRODG TARGET MANAGER - Mainly use it for faster file transfers, debugging, and editing.

Most of it is preference

The latest *official* version with DEX support is Rebug 4.84.2 REX or D-REX.

I have seen some unofficial versions labeled 4.84.3 including Cobra 8.3 and other XMB mods.
I guess 4.84.4 is a typo. If not, it would be nice to know what new features it includes.

Yes it's a typo, I don't think we will be seeing another rebug cfw, especially not a dex one. Unfortunately
