Hi, I wanted to know if there is any news about bgtoolset coming back in the future.
I am going to buy a ps3 and I really want to install CFW on it.

At this moment bgtoolset is unavailable. The service is supposed to come back soon.
However, bguerville is facing personal issues that have attend first. So there is not a concrete ETA.

If you need to use CFW for specific reasons (like development or specific features), you should get a PS3 with CFW already installed, get a hardware flasher or a CFW compatible model with 4.85 or lower.

There are other options is development like HEN Flasher or lmn7's updated ps3xploit flash writer for 4.89, but they haven't been released yet. There are also fake copies of bgtoolset that you should avoid due they cause random bricks. You may see reports from users saying that it's safe because it worked for them. The problem is that the fake copy fails randomly under different conditions.

If you use PS3 only to play games, you can install 4.89 HFW + HEN. It's proven to be safe and you will enjoy 95% of the CFW features without having to wait.

I have a question, can I know from these fake copies if my device accepts the modification or their result is wrong or I use the min VER method better and what is the VER should I look for
This is my first time using ps3 and I don't know too much about it.

You should avoid visiting the clone sites. Even if you don't use their incomplete flasher.
It is unknown which other features they added or removed. For example, they could be collecting the IDPS and PSID during the ps3xploit initialization to sell them.

If your console if a phat model or a slim 20xx, 21xx, you don't need to check the min version because they are CFW compatible. If your console is a slim 30xx or super slim, they only accept HEN. You only need to verify if the min version is <3.56 if your console is a slim 25xx or if it got an used console that could have been modified.

It is safer to use this PUP to verify the min version:

Just the 100th question about bgtoolset status ! Moderators should disapprove these posts if we have a sticky already . I've seen this done at ps2-house . I hate it when they do like that but i must admit the forum is very clean and easy to navigate .

I agree, Not sure if you noticed yet, but we did not have a bguerville ps3 toolset sub-forum here in the PS3Xploit forums.
So i added that and been moving post here. Merging some thread's and also renaming a few titles.

I approved this thread myself so if you wish to blame someone then make it me :) I feel people should have the opportunity to ask their questions so long as it's within site rules. Imagine it was you; I see the thread and think 'well this has been posted lots of times' and delete it. You may never get the answer you're looking for. So I give people the benefit of the doubt :)

These posts are often made by new members, some are new to using a forum, they don't know how to use the search function or just want to get the answers directly . You're a good person if you have so much patience . My personal opinion is to keep the forum as categorised as possible, with dedicated threads to each software. Take it as a user feedback .

You don't need to use the fake websites for that. First of all, if your PS3 is a phat one (doesn't matter if it's BC or not) then it is CFW-compatible. If it's super-slim then it's not. If it's slim (but not super-slim) then look at the back of the unit and check the exact model number. If it's CECH-20xx or CECH-21xx (xx is a two digit region code and doesn't matter for this purpose) then your PS3 is compatible, unless you suspect its motherboard has been replaced, which isn't common.
The only case where you can't know whether your PS3 is CFW-compatible just by looking at it is if it's a slim and the model number is CECH-25xx. Still, you don't need any fake websites to determine whether it's CFW-compatible. Instead, you can use minverchk, which is available here -
PS3 - MinVerChk (Minimum Version Checker) | PSX-Place
Just put it on a USB (name it PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP) and try to install it like a system update. It will fail (this is expected) and the failure message will display the minimum firmware version your console is compatible with.
If it says 3.56 or below then it's CFW-compatible. If it says 3.60 or above then it's now.

Good luck!

I am planning to get slim 25xx because it has 320g HDD that's why I was asking in the first place. I thought that 3.56 slims are not compatible.

1. What Coldheart said
2. Getting a 25xx would be tricky cause you can't know if it's compatible just by looking at it and usually the sellers won't bother messing with minverchk for you. The best thing you can do is to get a 20xx or 21xx and just upgrade the hard drive. The PS3 supports drives up to 1TB in size.
