Black Screen Issue with PS1 Games on PS2 via POPS

I'm having trouble running PS1 games on my PS2 using POPS. I bought a PS2 Slim with a pre-configured setup (a USB drive with games and an 8MB FMCB card). The USB drive contains PS1 games that run smoothly and display correctly on my TV (Samsung SyncMaster P2270HD) through a Component cable. The video and gameplay are flawless.

The problem occurs when I try to add a new game to the USB drive – I get a black screen and an error message. The games I've tested are King's Field and Valkyrie Profile from Vimm's Lair. I converted them to the ".VCD" format and manually entered their IDs because OPL Manager doesn't do it automatically. I also followed all the instructions from popular videos on installing POPS on PS2, but unfortunately, it didn't help.

Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this issue? I don't think it's a hardware problem since older games run just fine. As a test, I copied Resident Evil 3 from the original USB drive to another and also added King's Field from Vimm's Lair. Resident Evil worked, but King's Field still did not. Someone suggested on Reddit that the black screen problem may be related to the POPS emulator itself. Apparently, there are game-specific patches available online that can fix this problem, but I don't know where I can find them.

Hi there. New at this myself. I've not gotten any PS1 games to play on my PS2 as yet - just *somewhat* resolved my OPL issue and will be moving to POPS or some other tool soon for my PS1 games. I have a modded console that runs my originals and copies quite fine, and I have an untouched console for testing. The entire purpose of modding was to not use my originals. Only make copies and play those to preserve the originals. If I can use them off a HDD/SSD and not have to worry about damage to my originals at all - even better.

Something to note from prior experience - back in the day some games require special injection of additional stuff to the image (ISO/BIN/CUE) to get it working with the exploit. Forums then had strict rules and things they'd use to know if your game was downloaded or an original. My main concern is getting my originals copied so I can play them whenever and manage my saves and such. If you don't get a breakthrough before I do - I'll post what I did to get it working.

*EDIT*
Yeah - I forgot the copyright part. Some of the reluctance to assist may come from potential copyright issues. Especially in a case where you got a drive with games. My copies are all of original discs that I previously purchased and I still have the originals. Some may not be in the best condition, but I made copies of them before and have those to fall back on. So....yeah.
